Take him and then sit in his classes with him. Want to bet he will go if you tell him that is what you will do unless he goes and gets decent grades. Must do it at least one day so he gets the whole effect though.

That is a tough one. You really shouldn't try to force a teenager to do anything. Forcing them will only make them resist more. Its the way of youth. But at the same time you want your kid to have success in life. If he doesn't even finish high school they will probably end up in a crappy job struggling to get by.
I think your best option is to just not care. Let them fail at life. They will regret it later on and you can say I told you so. Also once they turn 18 there is no reason for them to be living with you if they are not in school. Don't support your child in any financial way. They will learn the hardway. Which is the best way.

That depends on the parent and the teen. Home schooling is a great alternative and there are many books on the market that provide great resources for teens that decide to take their education into their own hands. A teen can apprentice, or even duel enroll in a local community college, all they have to do is test and if they don't do well, then the college will give remedial classes. College is a lot different than highschool in that you have more options and it isn't so 'kiddy'.
If you do not want your teen to be unhappy, because he/she doesn't want to go to school, I think allowing them to home educate is the way to go...it's legal in all fifty states. Give them time to 'deschool' it may take a few months or years but after that the drive to learn should return.
I recommend Grace Llewelyn's "The Teenage Liberation Handbook: How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Real Education."

Going to high school is not an "option" up to a certain age in most areas... It's not a question if the teenager wants to go or not... and it's the parents responsibility to assume the role of parent and make sure their children, whether teen or not, attends school... The authorities are their to help you and support you as much as they can in the matter, if needed...

That's tough...I refused to go to school..I got kidked out..got my G.E.D. if my mom would of supported me on it I would of been in college a year before the rest of my class...Best advice..talk to your kid..Be a friend..In being a friend you will be a better parent...I was a total rebel..I am now 21 with 4 kids due to it and working my *** off to pay for my mistakes...I also have two felonys...BE FIRENDS!!! There is a reason you don't know why your kid isn't wanting to go to school..you may never know...Do what you kid is into with him/her...Even if you hate it...Don't complain don't try to change it..Get involved with kids friends too...But don't be a parent about it..All the parents I know that really know what is going on and have good relationships with their kids are envolved and let their kid do their own thing...Don't get upset in front of your kid or their friends..When they start talking about sex, fighting, running away, act like one of them..just more mature...I know it sounds crazy but it will help...Oh and make your hose be where they WANT to hang out...make it teenager friendly...Also if kid wants to stop high school let kid know other options...G.E.D. home schooling so on..Tell kid do what kid you will meet in the middle...kid stops high school..but takes another route...make sure kid knows all the options...Dr.s and Lawyers good ones have G.E.D'S now a days..

This is the reason parents should beat their children. Don't let your child grow up to be an idiot.
