You've known a friend of the opposite sex for many years and you and all your friends and family have always thought you're way too hot to go for the likes of him, but somehow over the years you develop this deep desire and affection and adoration for him but even so you are too ashamed to admit it to anyone, even to him, 'cause you still think you should be able to do better. Is that love.. ? Or what the hell is it?

Wow...I am not sure if it's love for you but here's my story. I have a friend from college who was one of the biggest geeks you could ever meet. He was nice and everything...just completely not my type. We were good friends and i dated others and so did he. There was never anything romantic between us...I got married first and then he did. During my first marriage he was the DJ at the wedding. He aslo was at the hospital when my twins were born and he & and his ex wife used to babysit my twins. I got divorced and then he did. we starting spending more and more time together and finally he moved out and got a divorce..... we dated 6 years and were married Aug 31, 2004..... and I am due with a baby on Feb 2, 2007. I STILL look at him sometimes and say " my gosh, you are a guy!" because we were friends for so long ...old friends can not believe we waited so long...I guess they saw something that we refused to see years ago...... Now I am married to my best friend and very happy... maybe it's in the cards for you, too. follow your heart. give this guy a chance. he may surprise you and you may surprise yourself.

I love all my close friends as though they are family but I dont want to bone my family. Not sure what to advise very difficult as you could end up losing the person that has come to mean so much to you. Just think if things went wrong after a while. What would happen would that person find it hard to be friends or around you. I have friends that I think feel the same about me although they are certainly not out of my league but if we were to go out and down the line if things went bad I would not like to lose the relationship that we currently have. It's like having another family I have grown up with the girls and they are as good as my sisters to me ( although I did promiss Gemma that if she wasnt married by 27 we would marry each other ) but thats been a long standing joke and I dont think that she would hold me to it.
However if you are finding that you have strong feeling and want to jump his bones, maybe it is love, after all you know him better than most. And they do say that you are most likely to be raped by someone you know.

As long as you continue to look at them and think you can do better then it isn't love. I think it could be a type of crush or simply feelings developed from a constant feeling of being safe around that person. Hopefully you will grow up and realize that your not too hot for this person. Sure you have to be attracted to someone to some degree to fall in love but I'm betting this person isn't ugly so maybe you need to figure out if looks are really so important or if loving someone who makes you feel safe and special and really loved is more important.

That's not love, if you are thinking you can still do better. If you are thinking that then the relationship would never last as you would always be on the look out for that someone better.

It sounds like you have known him so long and you know all about him, you are thinking of him as a brother or family member. I wouldn't take it further as it would more than likely ruin your friendship.

If you were in love with him you would not think you could do better and you wouldn't be ashamed. I think maybe you do have feelings for him but there is part of you that is saying you are too good. If you loved him you wouldn't be thinking there was "better". If you do have feelings you could tell him you like him and take it slow but it wont work if you are too ashamed to tell people.

If you think you are to good for him then just stop even thinking about it until you can get over your I am to good for anyone attitude b/c all you will do is hurt him in the long run........but when you do get over that and you still feel the same way then just go and tell him how you feel.....if you really like him and you two do end up dating and if anyone says anything just tell them get over it if it is love then you two are going to be okay

it could be love. stop trying to denie youhave started to get feelings for this lad. he may not be the normal type you go for but sometimes that is the best way. but saying that if you are too ashamed to admit to maybe your closest friend about ur feelings you should just leave him alone im sure he will find someone who likes him for him, without feeling ashamed.

only you can decide what to do

sounds like it to me! But it sounds like you're being put off by the negative comments you're hearing about you being too hot- at the end of the day isnt it better to be with a not so good looking guy that you get on great with than to be with a gorgeous stud who you didnt?
You definately sound smitten to me anyway!

It's a terrible way to live thinking you are too good to be with anyone. The guy seems nice and is probably too good for you, don't wast his time. Don't mean to be rude, but you have set yourself to get really RUDE responses...be afraid be very afraid.

Please don't enter a relationship with your "Friend" if you are gonna hurt him in the end.

it's stupidity and pride. If you like him and want to be with him, cast aside the views of people who say you are too good for him. How can anyone pass that kind of judgement?

Hotness is not what relationships are about - sort yourself out young lady!
