It's not that they're getting nicer ---it's now a law that if you tell then "do not call again", or "take my number off your list" they must not call back.

Yep, you're losing your knack. Do what you see the comedians in movies do: crinkle celophane or hard paper in the phone while saying, "hello? hello? you're breaking up!" Or bang the receiver on something hard, same thing. Or, like weary me, say, "I'm so sorry" and click!

well my personal favorite thing to do when a telemarketer calls is to tell them that i am busy but if they give me there home number i will call them back, ofcourse they always say no, and i reply by saying, well i guess you dont like strangers calling and bothering you when youre at home. they usually hang up me you as fast as i do to them

They tend to be better trained now. However, to ensure they do not call, just sign up to the national DoNot Call register or your national equivalent.
