Tonsil stones.

Tonsil Stones are irregularly shaped, whitish/yellow, foul-smelling globs of mucous and bacteria that get caught in the back of the throat. They form in the tonsil crypts which are simply small pockets or divots that appear in everyones tonsils. The scientific name for these white globs is tonsilloliths.

With strep you can not remove the white stuff and break it apart.

Redness in the back of the throat, white pustules, fever & enlarged lymph nodes about the cervical chain are fairly classic for Strep pharyngitis. Please see your physician to have a strep test and a monospot. If it's simple strep, a course of antibiotics will help you feel better very quickly and prevent some potentially really bad consequences should you fail to treat it properly. If it's viral mononucleosis, then it's a matter of letting it run its course. A lot of times it's tough to say for sure without proper testing.

This indicates an infection. You need to see a doc, preferably an ENT (ear nose and throat specialist).
I used to get those around my tonsils. Had 'em removed, but you might not need surgery.

Sounds a little like the bacteria that causes strep throat. I would go to the doctor and get a culture done.

My dentist calls them "tonsil nougats." These lovely smelling nougats form from bacteria that has collected in your tonsils. Tonsils are part of your body's immune system and digest bacteria. If your tonsils don't work quite as well as they should, the bacteria accumulates and forms tonsil nougats. They are nothing to worry about. You don't need your tonsils out unless you start getting infections. Most people don't even notice their tonsil nougats. Sometimes, if you get a build up of them, you may have bad breath. "Clean" your tonsils from time to time by poking them with a Q-tip. It also helps to gargle with Cepacol.

tonsil stones or tonsiloths. I asked that question months ago and that's how I found out what it was. It is bits of food and debris that collect in your tonsils. then, the bacteria on the back of your tongue digests it, which causes that white substance. Gargle with peroxide and you won't get them anymore.

Mucus. It is nasty, but you may have post nasal drip, allergies or even a recent cold could have put it there. Gargle with some warm salt water and that will help.
