He is a bit shy so I really need some good things to talk about. i already know the basics about him. Anything funny story i can make up or you know that I should tell him? Something interesting?

In my experience the easiest way to draw out shy people is to focus not on them, but rather on an interest they may have. If you know of a particular hobby, academic or news interest, movies, music, sport that he particularly likes. Learn a little bit about it (assuming you don't already share the same interest) and bring it up in conversation.
along the lines of "I just saw a fascinating documentary on Theodore Roosevelt... I had no idea that... you have read a lot about Roosevelt haven't you? What do think"
That sort of thing will open him up a bit, and should get the ball rolling.

Is there anything that he really likes to do, or special interest? In my experience there is a subject that you can bring up that can open up even the most shy type of people. If he is that shy also try to pick a place for the date that won't intimidate him if that makes any sense. Either way I'm sure it will go good and maybe you will just have to hold up the better part of the conversation. Be natural don't be always scrambling for something to say. Oh and HAVE FUN!

Generally people love to talk about themselves -- shy or not.
You say you know the basics about him ... build conversation around the basics. Ask him about himself ... you may initially only get one or two word answers, but at some point he will relax and start to chatter away.
You don't need to make up anything. You can also talk a little, just a little, about yourself asking him if he shares the same things or point of view.
Stay away from topics of controversy at least initially.

if you r done with the basics then it shud be easy.....
find a common ground..... making up staff will only mess it all up.... funny sometimes jus spoils things.
