I have had an abscess & it is not fun. Very painful. The pain went right up the side of my face. I did not know what was wrong at the time & went to the emergency room cause it was really bad. It would throb for a few minutes & then go away for awhile & then come back again. I did not notice any funny taste as others were describing & I could not see the tooth itself, cause it was in the back. The pain went all the way to about the top of my cheek bone. That type of pain is excruating, so if you are experiencing any like that it is most likely one. You can get very sick if it is not taken care of. The toxins of the infection can get into your bloodstream. Good Luck.

oh you'll KNOW it...

and if you do see a dentist there's a reason why you have that lesion on your gums giving you the pain of your life.

if you can't take it and it looks like a giant zit about to pop.. get the peroxide, a needle, a towel.. mouthwash!

and pop them and clean them out.. don't swallow.. this here is a desperate act of relief suggestion only. popping the abscess (if it's big and yellow that is) will relieve the pressure against the roots of your teeth. but wash the mouth out well if you do this.

it's not suggested but if you're in dire pain... you'll do anything.

besides if there's alot of puss it's good to get that away from the gums as soon as you can.

you'll be sore but the horrendous throbbing will subside.

and call the dentist.

A toothache causes pain and headache. An abcess will make you think your mouth is on fire from what I hear. It's an infection in a cavity. There may be swelling in addition to severe pain. If you have a cavity or toothache, whether it's infected or not, get to a dentist asap.

Just about any abscess is going to show up as a red bump/sore that hurts to the touch (most times) and is filled with pus (if broken) and do not attempt self care/draining. If it continues to grow or hurt, see a doctor or dentist according to where the abscess is located.

you will have the toothache of the century and will be looking for somewhere to hide your head. see a dentist immediately, an abcess is an infection and needs to be cleared up with antibiotics before the dentist can fix it (i hate to tell you this usually means root canal or extraction)

Pain and swelling in the area that is infected and a terrible taste in your mouth. Sometimes you can even have a slight fever and chills. You should have your dentist check it out.

See a dentist.

BTW, I had an abcess once with NO pain. The tooth just turned brownish.

You'd have a great deal of pain around that area. I wouldn't try to guess about it. Go see a professional. Good Luck ! :)
