I know that right up until my heart stops beating and my brain doesn't work anymore, I can handle anything. It might freak me out a little, but I'm still here. I would enjoy trying to cope with being a rich playboy. That would be a tough challenge.

i disagree with that statement but then again christians see it differently than i do since i am a spiritualist. what i believe to be a true statement would be "in life you do what you can and dont over do anything you cant handle" if you dont understand that then you have to look at it from a atheist point of view since they feel they make there own bed and there own work load in life not god. i also believe the same on that since god is only there when we fall in our sorrows and lifts us back up and dusts us off and tell us to try again.

p.s. i am a spiritualist

No. That's a misinterpretation of 1 Corinthians 10:13
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

It doesn't say that "God won't give you anything that you can't handle"; it says that God doesn't give us anything at all (in that sense). What you're going through is "such as is common to man"; that's life, and it's just what everybody else is going through, also.

God will help you through it, but He doesn't "pile it on until the breaking point." What you face is just the consequence of life on earth.

I totally agree.

I've always been afraid of dealing with certain things in my life, but eventually I had to deal with the things I feared the most.

The point of that statement is that God's strength is made perfect in our weakness. God is showing us that we can depend on Him. In our own "strength", we can't really handle much of anything. But when we consciously realize this, and pray and ask God to help us, He comes in an instant and is ready and willing to help us through life.

When we start to believe in God, God looks for ways to show us how much He loves us. These ways aren't always cute-- because they stretch our faith, and sometimes it puts us in uncomfortable positions temporarily. But seeming "disasters" in life are God's way of showing us that as long as we trust Him that nothing is too much for Him. It's God's opportunities to show us just how not an obstacle it is.

I agree-- God won't put more on us than we can bear... but that's with His inner strength (Holy Spirit) inside of us. Without God's constant help, we can't even survive.

No I don't. There are people who have had nervous breakdowns and committed suicide because they couldn't take what has happened in their lives. The death of a child often leads to a divorce. Depression is rooted in anger at problems in life. That saying is far from the truth.

there are alot of suicides in the world every year by people who couldn't handle life anymore. the question then becomes did god give them their problems or did they create their own problems.

Yes, because the definition of "handle" is very broad and can include anything with finding effective ways to cope, to committing suicide. People will get through anything that occurs in their life, whether by constructive means, simply waiting it out, or killing themselves. It realy has little to do with God.

Yes, I agree. - Times get hard, and life wants to choke us, but if we make it through and lean on him, it's all worth it and it makes us stronger. I'm going thru a tough time myself, but God has proven that he is bigger than the storms I find myself in!

Yes, this concept is given to us in 1 Cor. 10:13

"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."

Peace.

Well, either you handle it or kill yourself at which time you no longer have to handle it anymore, so it's kinda impossible for God to give you something you can't handle.
