I have a really sweet rottweiler/pitt bull mix that I cant keep any more. Hes too rough and a bit moody around my 14month old niece that lives with me, but I dont know how to find him a GOOD home. I love him to death and do not want him to end up on a chain outside somewhere, any suggestions?

He came from a humane league and i DONT want to take him to a rescue or anything. I have tried advertising online but I feel like people dont ask enough questions about him to be good owners.

neuter him then take him to your local SPCA or humane society - they can screen potential new owners far better than you can... also good owners go there to look for pets - very few good owners will take dogs out of the paper - they would rather support a rescue group - even they cannot guarantee 100% the dog will find a good home - BUT the certainly have better odds than you do....
if you try to rehome him yourself- make sure they have a fenced yard
make sure they have previous pet ownership experience (and ask what happened to their past pets - if they say "it ran away" dont let them take your dog...because why didnt they look for it or get it back, and seriously a good owner wouldnt allow a dog to be able to run away)
do not give your dog away if its not neutered....
it should be manditory for any body wanting this dog to take him to Obedience lessons - he sounds like he needs some mannars

I would have a look in the back of a dog magazine or search the internet for a rottwieler or pitt bull rescue they will vet the potential owners for you and will make sure he goes to a good home.

I think you should try to find him a home by advertising or if you have a friend who has room and a big heart and let the people who want to look at him know that he must be a stricktly indoor dog and that you would like a visit of their home prior to release. You can also make visits at the new home to make sure he is getting the love and attention he deserves. Be sure to make sure their are no small children in the home since he does have a tendacy to get to rough

i am sorry that you are having to do this and wish you luck with finding him a good place.................I just wanted to say that PLEASE PLEASE when you do pass him along can you make sure that the new owners are FULLY aware that he is not the best around little kids..........I know I would be more likely to show an interest in any dog if there was some degree of history behind it...........also it might be worth finding out how he is with slightly older kids teens etc so that would open up a whole new area of new families to look at him.
Not much help I know, just wanted to pass that along as when I got my pit there was NO information at all on her, so everything was trial and error.

If you adopted him than usually it is in the contract that if you can't keep him, then you must return him to where you adopted him.
If that is not part of your contract, then you can list him on http://www.petfinder.com
I have some info and advice for you to help you keep him. Ideally that would be the best scenario. If you love him like you say, then it can be done. Please email me at love4liberty_n_abby@yahoo.com and we'll talk more.
Good homes are hard to find, especially for pitbulls and pitbull mixes. A lot of people get them to chain outside, mistreat them, breed them, and fight them. I have helped others keep their pit bulls, and I think I can help you too.
I'm a mom to 2 pure pitbulls and one pitbull mix

I don't particuliarly think it is very healthy for dogs to live in gomes....I have heard that gomes are a confusing place for dogs just because they don't rally understand where they are....It would be better just to find a person with a house who might want to offer your pet tender loving care....hope this helps.

Try advertising him in the paper first, perhaps put up notices in your local grocery store, and as a last resort, take him to your local humane society. Sorry you have to give up your dog. Perhaps local vets or pet shops would also let you put up notices.

Try looking for a rescue to take your pet to, they seem to have a good success rate in finding good homes for them.

find a rescue in your area...just google it for your city and see what you find...some might come get the dog if its farther away but just see what you can find...thats the best way. otherwise i guess you could take him the the humane society but only if its your last resort...
