This is what happens with amnesty in absence of border security and enforcement in my opinion.

What do you think?

And what do you think of France's response: " You can't give amnesty to 500,000 illegal immigrants and then shout for help!"

"Spain had granted a legal amnesty last year to hundreds of thousands of formerly illegal immigrants. The Government's change in direction comes in response to unprecedented numbers of people arriving by boat in Spain's Canary Islands from sub-Saharan Africa.

Some 24,000 would-be immigrants have arrived in the first eight months of this year, compared with just 4751 during 2005. More than 1300 have arrived in the past week alone."

In a dramatic shift for a government previously seen as lenient towards illegal immigrants, Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said this week that, "Spain does not accept, nor will it accept clandestine and illegal immigration, simply because it is not immigration. It is a fraud to the immigrants, to workers and, obviously, to the rules of coexistence."

Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega said Spain would soon begin deporting all illegal immigrants, with mass repatriations expected to start within the week.

And, Mendi, I didn't see anywhere where it said 'MANY' in government, only one quote. The other was from a relief agency.

I found it interesting what was said in your link.

"Spain continues to grow significantly above the EU average and is still in need of workers," said Ignacio Diaz de Aguilar whose relief agency is co-ordinating the transfer of immigrants from the Canary Islands to the mainland.

Criticism has even come from the Government, with Secretary-General for Employment Valeriano Gomez saying "Spain will continue to need immigrants for a long time. Neither Spain nor European economies can afford to do without immigrant workers."

So basically many in the government think that the the immigrants are STILL needed. If they are as horrible as you want everyone to believe, then why would they still be wanted?

Big surprise.

I say one amnesty nut should be deported for every illegal granted residence. At least that way it is population neutral, and the illegal should be entitled to the deported nutjobs Social Security benefits.

I think any country that grants amnesty to illegals should just pack there stuff and leave giving the country to the people WHO have invaded it , that's all amnesty is saying its OK to break laws we will forgive you this time , bull **** countries are built on centuries of there own heritage and history, if illegals want to celebrate there's they need go to where they came from and try to make a better life then they had.............NO AMNESTY

I say all illegal immigrants should be identified, finger printed and deported. They need to get in line and apply for papers to immigrate to another country.

i don't see how giving criminals a loose bypass might help to cut back the crime value. lots of the unlawful extraterrestrial beings that are caught committing crimes have jobs. They commit crimes via fact they have a criminal mentality. check out the information tale decrease than with regard to the crime committed by ability of an unlawful alien whilst at paintings in JC Penny's.

I think Reagan tried that in the 1980s..... same results.... Criminals/illegal aliens, continued to INVADE... you cannot appease the enemy, their appetite is voracious.

Illegal aliens are criminals.... no matter what anyone says....
