Ive got an 06 fiesta and sometimes when i go over the lane markers on the motorway the underneath of the car makes a funny noise. My friend has a 05 model which always does this and another friend also has a 06 model which has just done it for the first time. Is this a design fault or am i imaging it?

Its a ford, what do you expect...Most fords or any car for that matter developes its own noises over the course of time and are normally nothing to worry about. If this only happens when you drive over lane markers it sounds like its general road noise being picked up from the slight raise in the road markings, but if your unsure, have it checked out by an independant garage........

Good lord, The reason for this is to ensure that anyone falling asleep at the wheel is awoken by the noise. The car will veer when you fall asleep. You wake up, brake sharply, panic and hopefully gain control of your vehicle. basically, it is little bumps in the white lines.
Solution - Turn up your music

Does it only happen when you go over lane markers? It could be because the lane markers are raised off the ground a little and it sounds like corduroy when you run over them.

Are you sure its not the 'cats eyes,' going bumtedy bump as you go over them at 65 mph, the sound comes into the car. I drive a large estate and it happens with that, also if you go over the stripes, you get a vibrating feeling, its ok,,ok.

i had a fiesta that did that and it worried me, anyway i found out that it was uneven tyre wear but it sounded like the back end was about to drop off, when fords are new they put crap tyres on but i'd take it back to the garage n tell em ur not happy with it

some thing could be incorrect with the transmission. My wager is that it is slipping out of aspects. because of the fact if it is revving yet no longer moving, it is indicative of aspects slippage. My automobile has executed this to me earlier as quickly as I did no longer have all of it the way in kit (in a gloomy parking storage). i might have the transmission appeared at. If the battery, alternator, voltage regulator became undesirable, your automobile might have concern beginning, the voltmeter could be going everywhere, you will observe your lighting fixtures fixtures dimming, that style of project.

Speak to the main dealer, they may have a recall coming up for a known fault or may know what the problem is.

Perhaps your tyres went over the cats eyes, making a thumping sound?
