Because Americans are spoiled, lazy and think that they are better than anyone from any other country. So when they are in another country, they like to show off.

It's a good question, and while I do not have the answer, I do have a theory. I think the answer must be in the way they are trained. Most of us in America have heard stories like that, or worse, and are horrified by them. Women soldiers have had their own problems regarding male behavior in the military, as well. I don't know how other countries train their people, but it seems that here self-esteem is totally broken down, only to be built up again by the military, in the way they want. I think, but can't say for sure, that much of the fault lies with those in charge, those who are giving the orders and somehow creating an arrogance that results in unkind behavior, or worse. As an American, I can only say that I am not alone in being very ashamed when these things happen, and hope we are not all judged by these wrongful actions.

Well you didn't say if they were Army or Marines. I have a lot of respect for Marines but not the Army. The Army vets I have met seem to have an attitude. Marines I think are much better trained and know their jobs. I think a lot has to do with the quality of the person who joins the Army. Seems like the U.S. Army needs more soldiers so they are willing to take some bad people.

Being an ex-soldier I can tell you that after dealing with an enemy that has no face and strikes while mingled with civilians, dealing with anybody in that foreign country is done with suspicion and warning. Contrary to popular belief, most soldiers do care about the people and how they are perceived. However, in my experience, I did not trust a single soul and just wanted to get home alive, perception be damned.

That is a pathetic story but not surprising at all as American soldiers are known for having such adamant attitude wherever they are ( of course not all of them are so as your American boss says)! Their misbehaviour has been reported from such places as Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and so on! Maybe, after a while on duty, they get sick and tired of fighting in a foreign land as they have to forego many things they are otherwise used to back home! I feel sorry for these soldiers!

They are in a war zone where they are constantly threatend with rockets. Most of them have gone a full year without seeing loved ones or friends, many of them have seen their families crumble because of their absence. They are hot and uncomfortable and in dire need of human affection. On top of it all, the citizens of THEIR country back home, dont support them and claim that the war is a waste of time and money, so in turn their efforts are a waste of time and life...How would you feel and act in a similar situation...ask yourself?
