you may want to consider getting Rory fixed. also, i'm not sure it's sex he's missing, but companionship. getting him a companion may be ideal.our dog has been happy ever since we got her a buddy from the shelter, but the other dog is a girl, as well. there's no need to add to the unwanted pet population(i.e. puppies) just bc Rory's lonely. Plz consider shelter adoption. those poor dogs need your help far more than breeder's dogs do.

we have a great dane and he has 2 companions and yet he still gets bored or over excited. If someone comes into our yard when we are away he vomits in the house. As for the peeing my sympathies they have very large quantities available to wet down your floor and ours has done it on occasion since becoming an adult. If yours has a temperment like ours I would definitely go with a slow introduction of another dog. Your dog won't be any happier with a female dog in the house our other dogs are both smaller males and all are intact. You also didn't say how old Rory is and that might be part of the problem. We had to work constantly to get ours to potty train and he was slow to learn compared to small breed dogs.

Before you get another dog Rory should see his Dr. to make sure there's no medical problem that needs addressing. If he gets a clean bill of health, maybe you should ask yourself why he's so lonely and if there's anything you can do to fill that void. If he's already getting all the human love possible, yes, get him a buddy. I'd be careful about getting another male dog because Rory may see him as a challenge to his Alpha status at home and with you, but if you decide on a female, please, at least one of them should be fixed. The world is full of unwanted puppies. I also recommend you take Rory with you to meet his new companion before you bring him/her home. That way you can see if they're compatible without Rory feeling challenged.

As an owner of 2 great danes myself, let me say that your dog is not hungery for sex - he is suffering from separation anxiety (as you stated). Yes, a companion might be helpful, but then again, what he is worried about is you leaving him and never returning - another dog will not completely help that. One of my dogs suffers from this as well, and unfortunate as it is, the options were either to take him with us wherever we go, don't go anywhere, or to get him on a medication regimen. The option would be yours, but I think it would be best if you got your mind out of the gutter and took your dog to the vet and see what he/she has to say about the situation.

I have 2 dogs with separation anxiety and I put them in a kennel when I leave and only when I leave and let them know I will be back soon. Give him a few toys and something yummy to chew on this should keep him occupied for a while then he will sleep. Also leave on the TV or a radio for him to help comfort him. When you get home let him out right away and praise him for waiting in his kennel for your return. This should help. Good Luck.

Rory wants you, not another dog. Take him to the 7-11 with you; dogs love Slurpee's.

You have enough trouble with one great dane.
I can only imagine how you would do with twice the trouble.
