"Yahoo Answers - What's the point ?
Since all you contributers have a PC and easy access to the Internet, where you can virtually find the 'sum of human knowledge', what on earth is the point of Yahoo Answers ?"
Funny how you posted on here when you have access to the whole of the internet.
Did you think this was the only place that could answer your question?

You get responses from a human being, so you can be vague in your question, and you don't need to figure out how to find the information you're looking for.
For example, you can ask "What elements are liquid at 0 degrees celsius?", and someone could tell you Mercury and Bromine, but to find the answer on your own would require reading through the characteristics of over a hundred elements. Or you might want to know the recipe for that mexican green sauce, but without knowing that it's called "guacamole" finding a recipe might be tricky.

People may have had direct experience in some question or problem and can cut through the web's massive input - you can type in a word on a search engine and get 2,347,834 answers, and
life is too short for that ....
Sometimes, someone will tell you in a few sentences the EXACT answer to a specific problem - something that you could get only from doing it, that would be difficult to find on the web...

It's still useful for determining who knows how to find information as well as put it in the most presentable form.
Also, it's more difficult to answer Philosophical Questions just based strictly off data. You need to have Reasoning Skills that can make sense of the data.
Even if information is at everyone's fingertips, it doesn't necessarily mean that people know how to interpret that information or know how to apply it.
It's also a good way of proving to people using Yahoo Badges the strength of your Cognitive Abilities. A lot of people say they're smart, but you can only truly judge when you see how they answer questions.

The problem with having access to the 'sum of all human knowledge' is knowing where to start looking for the particular piece of human knowledge that you require.
We all have to start somewhere, so why not here?

The whole point of Yahoo answers ,
is to get as wide a portion of public opinion and comment on any given subject
Sure you can get stock answers from the web . Nobody disputes or underestimates, the vast resources
we have at our finger tips .
Yahoo Answers However , is unique in enabling ,
a wide range of JO Public ,to include opinions
and even personal experiences to present to a questioner..
This gives the questioner, a wide range of answers and explanations to choose from .
Well i enjoy being here myself ,so it cant be that bad LOL!

There is no REAL point, as you say. But, when was the last time you got a funny or ridiculous answer to a question from the fountain of all knowledge that IS t'internet? Who cares whether you get the right answer? Sometimes its just a crack to communicate with total strangers. Sorry am I keeping you from your books?

Interactions with other humans is very important for people! Despite this forum being on the internet, its still gaining interaction from humans, loosen up a little! If you dont like the concept, go away into search engine land and lonliness....

So you can answer all manner of weird and wonderful questions and get points and move up levels!!! I've got over a thousand points before I get to level four. It may seem silly but I'm gonna do it before the end of next week cos I'm totally addicted to this site and my home and my work life are suffering as a result but I just keep going and going, asking and answering, getting more and more points cos I JUST CAN'T STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

almost true. most of the time you cannot find real life experiences on a google search. a lot of information can be found on the web, but some things just cant be. Its more personal, and more fun and you dont have to worry about someone trying to sell you on some product or service.
