she doesn't talk much... but the other day I was staring at her during class, and she turned and smiled at me...did she just do that to be friendly or does she like me? If you say she does... then how do I ask her out?

Just start with talking to her. See if she is interested in you and then maybe ask her if she wants to hang out sometime. If she is shy take it slow and see where she wants to take it.

A smile means a lot...but it may not mean everything.
I think if you haven't got to know each other she might want some time to consider going out.
"I'm going to the movies on Friday or Saturday, and I was wondering if you would go with me? Why don't you think about it, and let me know which day is better..."

The best way most people usually do it is to have a friend introduce you. Its hard to go up to someone you hardly know and just start talking to them. They make it look so easy on tv shows and movies. If you know a friend of hers, have the friend introduce you both. Good luck.

It sounds to me that she like you. The only way to really know for sure is to talk to her. Why don't you start talking to her in class. Or you could slip a nice note in her locker leaving your phone number or some other type of letter with your own words. Good luck!!!

Do you know any of her friends? You could tell her friend to ask. Pass her a note and say something like, "I think you are really cute..and I would love to get to know you more..."?
