My cat keeps dissapearing for weeks at an end. And as she is at home not more than a few days at a time she is very thin, and always comes home hungry and with her fur all matted up. Other than keeping her shut in, which I don't want, what can I do? I would love to know where she goes.
Thanks.

She has been spayed and gets the best of everything, including lots of love and attention...

that is the nature of cats, disloyal creatures that they are, you could try tagging her and see where she goes but it won't stop her.

it sounds cruel to keep them inside, but it really isn't...which is worse, her crying at the door for a week or so or going off and getting hit by a car or some sicko picking her up and torturing her. i have always had cats and used to let them wonder, one came back with a broken leg, she was gone sooo long that when i brought her to the vet when she finally did come back, he said to fix it he would have to re-break and set it or just leave it. she eventually left and never came home again. i have two cats now and NEVER let them out!!! give her a scratching post with something she can climb up/in, lots of toys and maybe even a window seat she can sit and watch outside. one of my cats loves to take walks with me on her leash (if you do this buy her a harness, not a collar because cats can slip right through the collars and run away). she may always try to get out, but if you give her the above things and lots of love, attention and very healthy food she should be just as happy as an indoor cat...and much more healthy and safe!! good luck

Had the same problem with my cat. For two years she would frequently wonder off and the problem persisted even after she was spayed. In the end the only solution was to keep her in. She is now a perfectly happy house cat, in perfect health, and has been for 9 years.

If she is thin and has matted fur when she returns, you need to get some Frontline from the vet to worm her thoroughly. I would advise you to keep her in as a housecat for her own safety; so many cats are killed on the road and just slung into bin bags and thrown out with the rubbish- nobody deserves that, plus there are dogs, and perverts out there, not to mention really awful, fatal diseases. Just keep her in where its safe and warm; give her lots of cuddles and toys, and keep her alive. xxx

Personally, i`d hire a private eye to tail her. But that shows a lack of trust on your part. It may be better to explain how you feel and try to talk things through. Keeping her shut in is not an option, she would hate you for it!
Why not ask Mycat if she`d consider counselling?
Funny name "Mycat", is it foreign?

Keep her in for two weeks and let her get her bearings again, she should be fine after that.It will also give you chance to build her up.I have two cats.

Sooo.....why don't you want to keep her inside?

Since you don't want to (it is best, and it isn't cruel), you're going to have to give up this insane idea of figuring out where she goes. That's a cat for ya.

Cat keeps going off, you say? Put some new batteries in. Works with my remote control.
