My children are 1/2 black and 1/2 Japanese. In our predominately white town, would they benefit more from learning ebonics or Japanese??
I am beginning to think they may have to learn Spanish!!!

Ebonics is a fake language, a gross dialect, and those who use it are considered low class and uneducated. Spanish is helpful in the southwestern United States. Japanese would be good for some business positions, but even younger people aren;t learning it because English is the dominant language for world business and science.

Both Cultures are very facinating. I would encourage individual confidenc eand curiosity. Japanese is an actual language so I would encourage that and cultural knowledge for the African-American portion. Ebonics is slang... so I would not put too much emphasis on *learning* that as much as the culture.

Move to Hawaii where 21% of the people are mixed. The next state would be Alaska with about 5%, then the so called melting pot state California with about 4%.
You would fit perfectly Hawaii where there is no Majority, and you would be well excepted, and Japanese would be the obvious choice of language to learn

Japanese should be better for one they will pay top dollar for any person to be a translator and have that language back ground.. Spanish is great also..There are some many benefits to know another language...It also looks great on a resume if speak you can speak other languages fluently. Other countries already feel that we are dumb because we only know one language it's nice to see that parents are stepping up....

Japanese is ultimately on its way to becoming a worthless language. Teach them Mandarin and they'll have a future.

LOL, about the Spanish part, but, they should know equal amounts of both cultures. Regardless if you live around most whites, let them have the best of all worlds, it's who they are. Good Luck!
