Percent means 'per one hundred'. So if you have 500 of the 1000 sprogglebots in the world, then you have 50 out fo every hundred there are, so you have 50%.
So, to work out the percentage of a number:
Take the number you have, divide it by the number in existence, then multiply it by 100. This gives the percentage.

There are a couple of methods depending on what you are trying to do.
eg if you want to find 42% of 250, you can do 250/100 (because percents are parts of 100) and then multiply by 42.
Or if you have a scientific calc, you can do 250x42% (thats the percent button)
or...if you have no calc, you can find 10% by dividing by 10, multiply that by 4 to give 40%. Then find 1% by dividing 250 by 100, multiply that by 2, and add it together!
I think thats what you meant - if you meant you have like a test mark, for example 20/48 and you want that as a percentage, you do 20 divided by 48 multiplied by 100.
Hope that helps!

take your number divide it by 100 then times it by the percentage e.g- to get 25% 0f 200 200/100=2 2x25=50
therefore 25% of 200 =50
