Peer pressure and unhappy home life

2006-09-14 01:56:42 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

mostly for an escape from all the crap in thier lives, or to fit in. personally, when i was 16, i used them for both reasons. but after only 2 weeks of using (and worse yet, selling) prescription pills, i was ratted out by some dumb chick, who i didn't realize at the time was doing me a favor.
it is not the right way to do it, but some people feel like they have tryed everything else, and that drugs are the only way the have left to turn. i pitty them, because i know exactly how they feel.

I believe teens try drugs to fit in. Some try it and like it and then feel like it's some sort of escape from reality. Some might try it because they grew up in homes that use drugs. My mother was addicted to cocaine and I knew this, I just grew up looking at her and knowing I didn't want a trouble life like the one she gave herself and her children, so even as a teen I steered clear of drugs and I am nothing like my mother today! I wish more kids understood what drugs came do to not only their lives, but to their family's lives as well.

I think part of it is due to peer pressure...if their friends are doing it, they may be pushed into it. Then, too, they may just like the feeling of getting high. It's an escape from the problems of their lives.

for some ~ it is to escape! Others do it for fun, yet still others do it because of presure from their friends.

Maybe they are trying to forget something bad that has happened to them. I am sure there are multiple reasons and no one answer can be the right answer.

No sense of mortality yet.

Teenagers don't have ability to see/understand far reaching consequences. They don't realize that things and substances they do have consequences that may not manifest until older.

They don't feel loved and their parents haven't taken the time to get them involved in positive activities such as sports, church, Scouting, etc.
