Religion depends on gullible people - people grounded in reality wouldn't fall for it. Jesus, if he wasn't dead for the last two thousand years, would no doubt puke at the abominations being committed in his name.

They are scamming people. They even were doing it in Jesus time, which is why he cast out the money-lenders. Just know that God doesn't want your money. It is no use to him. You can't buy a ticket to heaven. If you believe in that, you must get there through your works (good things you do) and not by money.

The reason Jesus stated as such about the rich man was that the rich man's life was all about his money. To be a servant of God, our life's focus is to be on following God and his will for our lives. As for T.V. preachers it's not my place to judge, but some have been found to be as you said, scam artists. Local churches on the other hand survive to do their works in the community by the donations of their congregation. To reiterate, Jesus isn't against us having money, but he is against us living our lives in the pursuit of it.

In context is does mean to keep away from greed, but if you read other passages with similar verses, you realize that Jesus actually meant it when he said give up everything. He basically believes you should live your life for god and serving others, so money gets in the way. Therefore, in a sense everyone should be giving up their wealth.

I dare every Christian here to sell everything they have. If they don't, they are no less greedy than the next person. It is easy to say "no, i'm not greedy," but when asked to walk the walk, you find out most people just don't.

TV evangelists are scam artists. Churches need money to maintain their property and some use the money in good ways. Mostly however it's a business. Last nite on "Dateline" they followed an internet child predator sting operation in Georgia. It was amazing how many sexual predators were ministers. How does that fit in?

True!! When Jesus said rich people, it includes these TV preachers also.

It is a sad thing that people of this world just dont see their tricks, and clever crafty statements, using words that work on people's minds and then make them give huge donations.

Very lovely question. Keep it up.

If Jesus did say that rich people won't get to heaven , and you see that all these TV preachers are millionaires.
Just wait. They are not yet in heaven.

I have to ask ..have you actually seen the bank account of a tv preacher to know how much money they actually have??..instead of just spouting off ..maybe you should become actively involved in ministry and them tell me how much money does it take to feed the hungry clothe the naked provide assistance to every walk of life..keep the church doors open ...with electricity and water and rent if you don't own the building...provide essentials for the church...like toilet paper ..paper towels...and many other needs......you need to get the facts first then speak on the facts not just ...hearsay..

Lastly if a man is dedicated to the work of God ..hello that is his Job ..God ordained ..he needs a salary...anybody ever question why you get paid for working...the bible itself says he is worthy of double honor...God bless

times have changed along with the society and culture since Biblical Times. However, feel as though there is to much emphasis on the material wealth rather than the spiritual. agree there are many who conveniently forget they can't take their wealth with them. would much rather see a good sermon than hear one. personally try my best to follow my Belief System without worrying about material goods concentrating more on the spiritual path.

Jesus did not teach that the rich won't go to heaven -- He taught that it is DIFFICULT for the rich to go to heaven. The difference between a saved, wealthy person and an unsaved, wealthy person is that the saved person places God first in his or her life; the unsaved person makes "mammon" his or her idol and rejects God.

Consider Job: he was HUGELY wealthy in his day, yet God Himself described Job as "blameless and upright" (Job 1:1 and 2:3). Job knew who his God was -- and that mammon and material possessions are not to be worshipped!

The apostle Peter told us "false teachers" would arise in the last days, who would steal money and possessions out of covetousness. Peter also told us how they would be punished:

2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By COVETOUSNESS they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

Preachers deserve to be paid fairly for their efforts; but as soon as they drift into covetousness, they are out of God's will.

Peace.

p.s. -- it's an absolute MYTH that all televangelists are wealthy. Unfortunately, some very bad apples have tainted the public's perception regarding this issue.
