There is no magic pill, diet or formula to lose weight. It takes hard work and detication to reach your goal. Based on my 13 years of bicycle racing experience, I would encourage you to eat a well balanced diet based on the 5 basic food groups. Also eat a lot of fruit, and raw veggies and salads for snacks, and stay away from the junk and fast food. When you do eat your meals it's very important to eat just one serving and don't heap up your plate. Most servings are between a 1/2 and 1/3 cup. If you choose to eat red meat only have a piece the size of a deck of playing cards. That's all one really needs. You also might want to check with your county extention office they will have a lot of helpfull literature for you and most of the time it's free. And don't forget to exercise. I've put in a couple of links that might help too ...Good Luck !

The Atkins diet is a fad and should not be touched with a barge pole. Silly diets like this completely deplete the body of what it NEEDS (carbs!) and could leave you with some VERY BAD health issues.

Besides, are you really gonna take weight loss advice from a guy the size of Dr Atkins?

If you want to lose weight fast just eat a balanced diet, cut out the snacks, eat 4-5 times a day (small meals) and do High Intensity interval training 3 - 4 times a week.

Peace

Firstly you can lose as much weight as you want in a short time period, however, you will gain it back. I am speaking from experience from someone who has been there done that with fad diets. There is the obvious liposuction, however, the recovery time is 3 – 6 months and it sounds as though that you’re in a rush to lose the weight for possibly an event with no downtime to spare. I am and have been on weight watchers for 2 years and lost 25 lbs. It was a slow and steady race, however, I haven’t gained the weight back ‘cause my diet has been stabilized and so was the weight loss from 0.5 – 1 lb/week. Remember the weight gain didn’t happen overnight, it happened slowly over time, the same is with proper healthy weight loss, you can’t have/perform miracles over night. These are some things that I do. 1. Drink lots of water as it kept me full longer. 2. Used an appetite suppressant like hoodie to make sure I don’t go over my daily calorie intake. 3. Did cardio and toning 3 – 4 times a week. 4. Made meal and recipe modifications as I cooked. 5. When I dined out, I made sure that I wasn’t shy about asking the kitchen to make modifications like dressing/sauce on the side, half portion ordered the kids meal etc. 6. Brushing teeth after every meal, the mint acts like an appetite suppressant and without the taste in your mouth, you can easily forget about the food. 7. Never drank diet cola, the aspartame actually made me crave food more for some reason. 8. At work I take a break before lunch and either take the stairs in the building or just general toning without weights. We have a gym at work so I do about 15 minutes of weights which not only gets my blood flowing but releases tension from a**hole customers. 9. Bought snacks in bulk (to save money) and properly measured what a cup or portion was and made individual baggies. There are some snacks on the market that are 100 calorie snacks, however, I find those to be too expensive than just buying in bulk and separating the portions yourself. Also by physically separating them yourself, you get an idea of what a portion is supposed to be and you learn to properly eye ball correct portions.

no diet can garentee fast weight loss. I think the atkins one is a little better than most but very limiting. you can only have stuff like meat and chesse, eggs for the first couple of weeks. then slowly up your number of carb intake. You should go get the atkins book and read it through before starting on this diet.

No it is not guaranteed, although it is likely. However, it is not intended to be a quick weight loss "diet", it is intended to be a lifestyle. *Like every other diet*, if you go back to how you ate before you will regain the weight.

You can go to http://www.atkins.com/ for basic information and a "food list".

Better yet, read the book Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution.

Atkins is as healthy as you make it. You can "technically" do Atkins and eat crap and junk food. Or you can do it the way it was intended and eat lots of fresh, whole, healthy foods. Adequate servings of meats (limited processed meats). Lots of fresh veggies. Cut out sugar, starches and grains. Drink your water. Get your exercise.

To lose weight, a person has to reduce the calorie intake by some amount by modifying their diet. A diet without sufficient nutrients will only increase the appetite of the person trying to lose weight. Since most people combine a diet with an exercise plan, additional nutrients are required for the growth of muscles required to increase the metabolic rate required for long term weight loss. It does work if you follow it strictly. To do it right you really need to go out and buy the books and follow it to a T.

The problem with this diet is that it isn't sustainable by most people. Once you try to introduce carbs back in, you gain weight like crazy, but for the short term, it does indeed work.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!

Yes, you lose quickly rather rapidly....
You eat meat....red meats for the most part
you can't have any sugar/carbs, my friend was on it and she couldn't even drink with us at the bar cause of the stuff that was mixed with the drinks, it kinda sucked...but she did lose a lot of weight!

It can be healthy. You can make it as healthy as you want. I lost a stone in 3 weeks and I don't know anyone who hasn't lost weight on it. However as soon as I came off it I put the weight back on.
