Is it possible to have the wedding between an African on a six months visa to England and a British here in England.

Not under current rules which require a marriage visa for tourists or for fiancé(e)s intending to live here. Or a Home Office permit for others with temporary status.

But a court declared that law incompatible with art. 8(1) of the European Convention Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (right to found a family) so it's unclear what the future holds.

A few US states have provision for proxy marriage, but nobody knows whether such a marriage would be recognised in Britain.

Your question is very simple, and deserves a simple answer. The answer is yes, there is nothing that can prevent you marrying a British citizen even though you have a temporary right to stay in the UK. However, the marriage would not automatically allow you to remain indefinitely here. You would need to leave the UK before the expiry of your current visa, and then apply for entry clearance as the spouse of a Briton. Another matter is that six months is just a standard stamp that they use on passports, so if you have said that you only intend to stay in the UK for, say, four weeks, then they expect you to leave before the four weeks are completed, regardless of the fact that you have a six-month stamp. One final thing, Naija boy, if you intend to dupe a lady by pretending to be in love, and you get married, and then you dump her when you have got your residency, that will not be the end of things, because I will personally seek you out and kick your freaking balls in. I know where you live....

I think they changed the law not so long ago. I believe that they now ask that you get a fiancé(e) visa BEFORE you actually enter the UK, if you have the intention of marrying your sweetheart.

You could in theory marry "spur of the moment" - but I'm not sure if that's even possible anymore. You would still have to leave the country to apply for a Spouse visa which would then allow to come back and live with your wife/husband/partner. I don't think you can jump from one kind of visa to another while still remaining in the UK. As far as I am aware anyway. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong. :-/

Even if you do get married there is every possibility that either one of you will not be able to get nationalisation or even residency for a very long time. Immigration is very hot on Weddings now. www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk i suggest this web site and ask them. Don't do anything until you have spoken with an official. I know of one person who couldn't live with their partner for over a year.

I do think you can get married. Its the living together part you should look at

You can marry but can you stay?

The rules say if you enter with the intent of getting married you should obtain a fiancees visa. Failure to do so means if you do marry you will most likely be refused leave to stay.
