Some auctions are open to the public, some are only open to licensed dealers. If you want to buy from a dealer auction, you will need a dealer license issued by your state.
While the requirements differ from state to state, most states require that you have a permanent place of business in a location that meets zoning requirements. You also will most likely need to post a bond, and undergo a criminal background check.
Check with your state's DMV office for the the exact requirements.

Depends on the kind of auction. Some are dealer auctions for which you would need a dealer license. However, most other auctions, such as government seized and surplus property auctions are open to the public.

The best auctions are the dealer ones. All the rest have Crappy vehicles. So if you are a friend of a car dealer contact him and ask him about it :)

Like someone said before...
If it is a public auction...go ahead...nothing needed...
If it is a dealer auction....you have no business going there. (that is why it is called a dealer or wholesale auction)

Go to local used car dealers and ask if they'd take you for a small fee.
