There could be a correlation between the red wine and raw egg mixture and your uncle living to such a ripe old age.
There has been scientific proof in recent years which verifies that red wine can help your heart and have other health benefits (see sources for more on that).
"Moderate consumption of red wine has been widely reported to reduce risk for cardiovascular disease. Some researchers have attributed this cardioprotective quality to the significant amounts of resveratrol naturally present in grape skin.

Resveratrol protects grapes and some other plants against fungal infections. It has been shown previously to have a number of potentially beneficial properties, including antioxidant, anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. " (source one)

"The moderate consumption of wine (but not beer or spirits) is associated with a reduced risk of stroke, according to a new report. The authors believe wine’s protective effects may be linked to disease-fighting compounds other than alcohol. “Intake of wine is associated with lower risk of stroke,” concludes a 16-year Danish study led by Dr. Thomas Truelsen of Copen-hagen University Hospital (Journal of the American Heart Association, December, 1998)."

"In recent years dozens of cohort studies from all over the world have associated moderate alcohol consumption with reduced risk for cardiovascular disease, decreased overall mortality rates and other potentially improved health conditions."

With such research coming to light, the red wine itself could have contributed to his long life.

Eggs have cholesterol in the yolk, however the whites of the eggs have alot of protein, and protein is a beneficial substance that our bodies need.

So yes, there could be a correlation between your uncle's morning ritual and his long life. Seems like your uncle was a wise man-- someone who was one step ahead of scientists who are just now beginning to see the benefits of such daily rituals.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Well it's possible. That's how I want to be!

Not sure about the wine - if it was red wine it would have anti-oxidants and cancer fighting qualities.

I have had a boiled egg every morning for the past 7 years and have not been ill to speak off. I think I have had a slight sniffle maybe twice. I also cut out wheat products.

Your uncle's diet may have certainly helped his longevity. Eggs have an ingredient which purifies the liver. Obviously if your liver is pure your blood is much healthier.

Medically speaking, there are some possiblke health benefits from the red wine, taken in moderation as your Uncle did. However, those responders that were critical of the raw egg were correct to do so - the chances of diseases like salmonella in rarw egg are high enough that he was fortunate to have avoided it for so many years.
