My 2 year old labrador retriever mixed with a boxer is acting really not like her. Her tail never wags, she always acts scared, and even my praise doesn't seem to cheer her up. Should I take her to the vet? I took off her shocker collar in case it was shocking her but when I put it close to my ear there was no beeping. I asked my brother if he had hit her for whatever reason and he said no. The only time she acts like this is when my dad hits her, but it never stays for two days! My question is, what is wrong with her and how can I fix it?

I'm not hitting her and she is eating everything fine. I gave her two pig ears to try to cheer her up, and she ate them. Well part of them. My golden retriever is acting weird too. He is stealing food. Yesterday I couldn't get him to open up his mouth. He had her pig ear in it and refused to give up so I let him eat it and I gave her another one. I'll ask my brother and my dad if they have been hitting her, other than that I feel like theres a dog abuser in this house and it makes me scared for her.

You don't understand. My dad doesn't hit her for no reason, he doesn't really hit at all. All he does is tap her on the nose and say,"Bad girl" Sorry. I shouldn't of said hit. Big difference T.T So I should take her to the vet?

Your dog is being abused. If you really love her, find her a good home away from your dad.

If your dad is hitting you, you need to know that NO ONE has a right to hit you - not even your parents. Physical abuse is an illness and until they get help it won't get better.

I realize you love your dad, but if he is hurting you then you need to tell someone. Your teacher, the principal, nurse, police, someone. Letting your dad hit you doesn't help you or him and IT IS NOT LOVE.

In the meantime, please help your dog by getting it away from your abusive dad.

Being a pet owner for a great many years I would say that you just call the vet and explain the 'lack of enthusiasm'....because 'we' know our pets the best and you think you see a change...and the change has lasted a few days....call and see...some vets are great at giving advise over the phone...the bottom line is that you have noticed a 'substantial' change and that is what counts because it does not make any sense that the tail wagging stops and the dog seems to be scarred all the time..good luck..p.s. the tap on the nose would not be doing this, but the collar one just might not be good for this particular dog...some of them are soooo sensitive to pain..Good Luck!!!

Never hit, it won't do anything but create problem's. A shock collar is a very harsh training tool. I have one, but only use it on a low setting when the dog goes for the street and I can't get them to come. Out of 20 dog's I have only 2 that want's to chase car's and those 2came to me at a late age for the early training.Take her to the vet and find out if she has a physical problem and if not you need to get rid of that shock collar.Sound's to me like she's cowered down from the radical training she has received at your house. Don't let ANYBODY hit her, and toss that collar. If she's not sick or injured, she needs lot's of loving, gentle attention Be good to her, you are her God and she need's better than she's gotten. Good luck

Call the "Dog Whisperer" Cesar! hahah....i dont know. If your dog is being hit then she is most likely scared. Doesnt sound like anything the vet can fix. Sounds more behavioral. If she is eating ok and seems healthy physically then sounds like there is something going on mentally.

Looks to me somebody is lying about not hitting the dog. Her behavior is a sign that she has been abused and she is scared it will happen again. Unless you have ghosts in the house. My dog sometimes acts scared and looks towards the ceiling like he's looking at someone, growls and barks, and comes looking for me and hides. I don't see anything, but he certainly does.

Don't let them hit her ever. I just stomp my feet and thats good enough for my dogs I don't have to hit them.

Where I am weather is changing she could be coming down with a little cold or kennel cough It usually starts with a depression and lack of appetite.

It could be that the other dag has put her in her place he is being pack leader and she is showing him he is the pack leader. If he is stealing her food and you let him have it you are telling him that he is the pack leader. Sounds like you need to show both of them that YOU are the head Dog..

Somethings up with her, I agree.
I suggest you take her to the vet for an exam. It could be she's in pain, or maybe she's just pouting. But before anything else, make sure she's okay physically.
