Am I wrong but wouldn't this be a good thing, if it could happen?

Where did that saying come from?

Wouldn't it make better since if you hated someone to say, 'I'll beat the hell in you"

Yes I am a Christian and Love Jesus, just wondering about some of the saying people use in this world today

Interesting question. I've been involved in a few skirmishes over the years and found the saying quite apt. When it's on the other guy can be pretty ferocious, demonic even. After the battle is joined if You prevail the other chap can be somewhat reduced in his aspect most terrible. Hence beating the hell, devil, whatever You like; out of a person. Dragons to beggars of mercy in a short time, works best! It isn't always victory though, I've experienced the other side of this coin as well. There is always someone, or a couple of someones that can adjust the amount of hell in You too. I hope this helps You with Your question, take care.

I believe a paraphrase would be, "I will bet the evil out of you". It's always said when something wrong, evil, or negative is done by someone.
