I tried EVERYTING when I was pregnant with my first daughter. She was thirteen days late. I tried intercourse, walks, spicy food, stretching, massage and even begged the baby to come . . . nothing worked for me.
My only advice to you is just TRY to be patient . . .I know it sucks. Especially when friends and family call every five minutes. I wish you the best of luck!

I tried everything when I was overdue - hot curries (made the baby go really quiet for a while! don't think she liked it!) sex, raw pineapple (don't even bother, complete myth) long walks, raspberry leaf tea, had a sweep from the midwife but nothing worked, I ended up being induced at 42 weeks. I think nothing we do will make them come out before they're ready (and good thing too otherwise we may accidentally do something to make them premature!). I think the people it's worked for were probably about to go into labour anyway. Sorry to rain on your parade, I know it's tedious but make the most of getting your rest and relaxing because it will be the last relaxing you'll do for a while! (sorry not making myself popular here am I!) Good luck for the birth! xx

That is a very tricky situation and some of those things could do more harm than good. Read the article on the website listed below and discuss it with your doctor. You should always follow your doctor's advice.
But the walking should already be a part of your routine, so that is the only thing I think is safe. Four days overdue is no reason to be overly concerned because your due date is only an estimation.

I was 4 days past due and I started taking 4-5 1/2 mile walks a day and that seemed to help.

Walking is good for you during your pregnancy. It helps strengthen those muscles that you will be using for childbirth. As far as self inducing, why don't you just try to relax and enjoy these last moments of carrying that special child inside of you. Nature will take its course and it will be here when it is ready. Try doing some scrap booking or something to take your mind off of the fact that you are ready to go nuts waiting. I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in home remedies for inducing. Just be patient and cherish these last moments of pregnancy. It is truly a blessed time if you learn to embrace it.

The long walk might not be the best idea especially if it starts half way through the long walk
as far as I know different things affect different people at the end of the day it will happen when it happens without the old wives tales

i know you think you are probably a little too rounded, but having sex is probably as closed to being induced as you can get. there is a chemical in the ejaculate that is the same as the induction chemicals but not in the same quantities. i used this technique with my first son i was 2.5 centremetes dialated before i went into labour. it is said to soften the cervix ready for labour. spoil yourself and have a nice curry- but i think that is an old wives tale!

Everyone says sex, but you just might not feel like it, I know I didnt.
I tried to walks, hot food and pinapple, non of these worked.
I went 12 days over and had to be induced. Which was a disappointment as I wanted a home birth and I had to go to hospital to be induced.

I'm sorry to tell you but your baby will come when he/she is ready! My daughter was a week late and I think the threat of inducement was enough for her! Just relax and try to prepare yourself for the birth rather than get yourself stressed - rest as much as possible and build your strength up. Good luck!

Going for walks is almost guaranteed I know of one woman who was overdue and she was advised by the midwife to go for walks not long hikes just walking up and down it helped her she had baby next day.
