Being a tanker in the US Army, I am on the M1A1 Abrams. Though many versions of it exist, M1A2, M1A2 SEP, M1, etc. , The M1A2 SEP is the most technologically advanced of them all, however, I would prefer an M1A1 in combat anyday. All that computer based tech in the turret of the tank just makes it easier to break.
If you are talking, in the world, then it would be a close battle between the M1A1 Abrams and the Israeli Merkava. It is all a matter of opinion I guess.

Having read the answers prior to mine I am left with the distinct impression that the only things Americans know about are 'things' American.
You are not the only nation on earth to produce military hardware you know.
Incidentally, if you want to see what the truth is about the Abrams look in 'Jane's Fighting Vehicles'...that's a book by the way!

M1A2 Abrams and Leopard 2. Some would say that the Leopard is better then the abrams but I would say the other way around. Johan

The Abrams M1A2 is probably the best because of it's fire power and armament. It's also a fast and agile vehicle. PS I just noticed someone had a choice name for you because of your interest in military equipment. Oh well, it takes all kinds, eh?

the leopard II A 6 ex. that's the MBT with a 120mm l55 smoothbore gun, an armour which is the top of the bill, fire control witch are state of the Art and a very powerful multifuel engine from MTU a reference in engine building.
