I'm thinking about painting my front door before I sell my house. The outside of the house is red brick with black used as the accent colour above the windows.

The wooden front door is currently stained brown and has a brass knocker and a brass-effect letterbox.

I just recently answered this question, and know it from experience and research.

RED or any shade of it, may not strictly be a selling point, but it is known to be "inviting" to those who approach.

Wood stain is not bad and easy to maintain however get rid of the brass effect letterbox. Get real brass. Other than that stick with the classics, black and deep or navy blue for older houses, white for modern.

Leave it as is. I love wooden doors as opposed to painted. It gives the house a nice, cozy feel, especially with the knocker. Where is this house, do tell?

Hmm, well black would be good but it might be too dark for putting on the market, so maybe a forest green? Or a red to match the brickwork?

My personal preference is green, but people think blue is classier, so perhaps for the purpose of selling the house, blue might be the best choice.

Anything can be appealing as long as it looks clean and tidy. Brown can work well as can red - but whatever colour you choose make sure it looks freshly done

good luck with your sale!

British Racing Green or brilliant White.

I know we're moving when my wife buys a tin of BRG paint.

I find a 'blonde' colored natural wood stain to be the most attractive, but that's just me. I don't really like front doors that are painted.
