Depends on what the final bang is. Because I don't believe that some mystical apparition is going to come down from space to save his people and to banish the rest to be enslaved by a goatman with a pitchfork and horns. Has the makings of a fine comic book!

Eh? Fitness does not exist if the entire population dies. The entire concept is redundant in that case.

And there is not a final bang - there will be a heat death from entropy that will eventually make this universe dead.
