Depends on what the final bang is. Because I don't believe that some mystical apparition is going to come down from space to save his people and to banish the rest to be enslaved by a goatman with a pitchfork and horns. Has the makings of a fine comic book!

Eh? Fitness does not exist if the entire population dies. The entire concept is redundant in that case.
And there is not a final bang - there will be a heat death from entropy that will eventually make this universe dead.

Not only are they fit enough but they will inherit the earth when all the pious idiots who are willing to kill and die for a myth end up slaughtering each other completely
