Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Active Overall rating:
Parkers summary:
The latest Astra's purposeful styling conceals a strong bodyshell; 16-valve engines are efficient and refined; and changes to the suspension and chassis mean that handling and ride reach higher levels of responsiveness and comfort. It's a driver's car despite its lack of image - the stylish Coupe and Coupe Convertible proving the exceptions. And with the market flooded with ex-fleet cars, Astra is excellent value, too.
Value rating: ****
Well equipped and competitively priced; Astra is already suffering typical fleet car depreciation, so year-old cars are available at huge savings on list price; too new and still too expensive to rate as a bargain buy.
Reliability rating: ****
Too early to say, but much improved build quality bodes well; these fourth generation cars are certain to be a big improvement on the patchy reputation of older Astras.
Driving rating: ****
A fine driving machine that's much more refined than before; ride is quiet and supple; standard power steering is well-weighted; Astra's excellent handling inspires confidence, making it more fun to drive than some rivals.
Performance rating: ****
Well equipped and competitively priced; Astra is already suffering typical fleet car depreciation, so year-old cars are available at huge savings on list price; too new and still too expensive to rate as a bargain buy.
Comfort rating: ***
Longer wheelbase than before gives the roomiest cabin in its class; interior is rather drab and staid, which is a shame.
Safety rating: ****
See SPEC NOTES for airbags; side impact bars; seat belt pre-tensioners.
Security rating: ****
Immobiliser and unique-fit stereo are standard across the range.
it should be about 96 bhp!! definateley econominal!!

Get all that info from Yahoo cars. if you going to buy one - get the sports model with the hard top that folds back. I saw that - really cool car. I drive a Vectra. Good on petrol if you short shift and use 5th gear a lot. For a 2L it's really good. It also goes like **** of a shovel - when you put your foot down! Vauxhall's are very reliable too. I talked to a lot of people - and they all have no problems. Mine has never broken down. I just charge the battery quite often - because it never gets a good run. I'm always around town - going over speed ramps and crawling through bloody speed cameras. But on the odd occasion it does go! The guy who looks after it and does the servicing says it will last for years - the way I drive it and look after it. Being an advanced driver helps - idiots wreck their cars - with bad driving. I can still drive fast occasionally. But you have to be sensible. Why race up to traffic lights and hit the brakes at the last minute? I've had kids pass me as I'm slowing for a red light! Crazy, and their cars won't last long. Mine is in better condition than when I bought it. I did have a new alarm though. But buy the Astra, it's economical and it will go when you put your foot down. What more could you ask for - except a bit more room. I fill mine with shopping - even had a carpet in once!
I hope I get top answer for this - I'll have to spell check it manually now!
