NATURAL teeth (not bad as they seem to think!) which aren't disgusting, just a normal colour for tooth enamel, or brilliant white tippex looking teeth that will more than likely crumble when you get older because of all the whitening procedures! Also I'd rather have my own teeth than porcelain veneers! What are your opinions?

You have asked our opinions so don't get upset ok?

True it is offensive when people say these things, especially generalising a whole population. I live in England and for the most part I would say that the average Brit has normal teeth. However, it's not just Americans who say that British have bad teeth - it's something that is just generally accepted. This is similar to the generally accepted view that Americans are overweight. That is probably offensive to Americans and they might have something to say about it.

Having lived in both places, married to an Englishman and having alot of American friends I would say that Canadians and Americans generally pay more attention to their teeth.

This is a result of serious Government intervention over many years though. School programmes have even been developed in many places to give free yearly dental treatments to all schoolchildren in many areas of North America. Local governments where I grew up in Canada actually paid for flouride treatments once a year for all school children and they would spend that day teaching us all about our teeth and how to keep them clean properly. We were taught why dental hygiene was important.

As far as I'm aware these kind of things do not happen in the UK. It is left up to parents to try to keep their kids teeth inspected and most often that doesn't happen. Unfortunately there is a very low awareness of DAILY dental hygiene in the UK and that is a fact. But it doesn't mean that all Brits have bad teeth.

My opinion is that if your teeth are good and you keep them clean and healthy, you have nothing to worry about. Many people do not and they will struggle as they get older. The comparison is not between 'normal colour' teeth and 'tippex looking teeth'. It is between the health of your mouth or it's decay. The look of teeth is only cosmetic. But if they are not healthy they will rot away and die, then a person who has not cared for their teeth will be left with other problems.

Stay away from the professional teeth whitening procedures and from the whitening at home kits. They are using extremely toxic chemicals that can cause IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO TOOTH ENAMEL and premature tooth decay.

Check out this site: http://www.naturalwhiteteeth.net - It's about how you can whiten your teeth 100% naturally. Same results but 100% safe and 1000 times cheaper.

I'd rather have fairly straight, but not perfect teeth that weren't a brilliant white, but natural. I don't think British have any better or worse teeth than Americans. The only American population that has extremely better teeth than anyone is the population of the acting centers of the country -- L.A./Hollywood and New York. Those people are all fake anyway.

If I was going to have masses of fake gnashers I wouldn't want that standard porcelain veneer stuff most Americans have, I would want FANGS. You know, like proper Dracula (Christopher Lee style) fangs.

Interestingly, a lot of Americans can't afford all that dental treatment either (despite all their rather cruel jokes about the English and Irish having bad teeth) - most Americans I have met over there have normal teeth too (and I mean just not-bleached and healthy).

My dentist said that American-white teeth are disgusting and even if I payed him all the money in the world he wouldn't white my teeth more than my natural colour, since the colour of the teeth is something that goes with your tan and eye colour... He also said that he's my doctor and he's supposed to keep my teeth healthy not ruin them for the sake of pretty...
And yes, I would rather have my own teeth then porcelain...

I'm American and I have my NATURAL teeth that are yep you guessed it white...I occasionally use teeth whitener but mostly I brush & floss 2 times a day and I try to stay away from teeth staining products such as soda, coffee, and tea,...and after eating sugary items I brush no matter where I may be (yes folks I carry a toothbrush with me)
