When my son was 10 1/2 months old, they told me at the WIC office to start introducing him to cows milk so by a year old he would be familiar with it and I could just stop the formula. I see no harm in giving it to them at 10 months. Just don't go overboard.

I was once at Disney World with my 10 month old. We forgot her formula in the hotel room and gave her milk. She threw up all over the place. As I recall it was whole milk, which was a big NO-NO but I did not know that. She may have been fine with skim or 1%.

I was told that full cream cows milk is fine on breakfast cereal and in food from about that age, but formula still needs to be used when drinking milk until at least 12 months as it has lots more vitamins and minerals in it!!

It quite relies upon on what component to the milk they're having the allergic reaction to. if that's the lactose (sugar in cow's milk) then a soy based formulation ought to paintings nicely. in spite of the undeniable fact that there is casein (protein in cow's milk) in soy formulation. do not question me how yet that's what the pediatrician informed me while my son became puking up soy formulation. At that element we had to alter to Neutramigen formulation. It has the proteins broken down in this form of style that it prevents the allergic reaction. Very costly in spite of the undeniable fact that it solved all our feeding and allergy issues in my son.

It's just that cows milk does not have the vitamins that formula has. He may get gassy or breakout but then again they usually do that when something new is introduced

bec's got it right on this one. If you'd like to mix up the cereal with something other than formula, pick up some table cream, 18% milk fat.
