America went to Irag because they needed the oil, they did not care about Sudan because there was nothing to gain, they are after Iran because there have prospects. Is this truly the way of pursuing world democracy?

America do not know what democracy is. If they did it wouldn't have been necessary to fix votes. They are a selfish, demanding nation with no respect for other countries or cultures, purely out for their own gain.
(This applies mainly to the government and I know not all Americans views are reflected...)

The Cold War clearly demonstrated that extending your form of government is the best way to remain safe and secure.

Forms of government need other similar governments so that they can be free from the conflict that develops in trade and the "merging" of interests.

Today we see a problem developing. The free nations are trying to free otherr nations and the religious nations are trying to convert non-religious nations.

Naturally America will feel safer if all or most of the othe nations are free since free nations tend to support each other. World democracy would liberate the world's people and provide the stability necessary for world peace.

Democracy is only used as a "reason" when it suits the USA. In the first Gulf War, US and other troops freed Kuwait (which is an absolute monarchy) from Iraqi occupation, and restored the Kuwaiti royal family to its position of power and privilege. There was no mention of bringing democracy to the Kuwaiti people - they don't even get to vote. And let's not forget all the democratically-elected governments that USA has toppled, for example the socialist coalition government led by Salvador Allende in Chile in the 1970s, the government run by Maurice Bishop's New Jewel Movement in Grenada in the 1980s, and all the attempts against other democratically elected governments such as the contras' war against Sandinista government in Nicaragua in the 1980s, and the recent aborted coup against President Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. It is economic interests that steer the USA's foreign policy - thus after destroying Iraq, contracts for reconstruction projects were only given to US firms. Capitalism and big business determine USA's actions abroad - let's all be aware of this.

I am sick of hearing about US going to Iraq for oil.
Actually we get less oil out of Iraq than if Saddam was in power. It may be the actual play to get No Oil from Iraq to support OPEC price fixing and to control the refined gasoline that is sent to Iran.

Hey Bush and Cheney may have started the war for personnel reasons but the Muslim nation's are a mess trying to kill each other and steal each others oil. They can't control their religions or their leaders. Now they all want nukes too.
I got an Idea let peace break out in Iraq so the Iraq government can tell the US to go home.
I'll be waiting.......

Why isn't America getting more Iraqi Oil then? The US wants to go to the Sudan and has been proposing peacekeepers to the UN for a long time. You need to ask the UN why they will do nothing about the Sudan. Specifically, you need to ask Kofi Annan why he refuses to call what's going on there genocide. If he would coutnries would have no choice but to intervene.

Both. It's a win-win situation. Democracy would be good for those living under tyranny, but also good for us, because democracies would be less likely to produce entire generations of angry young radicals. (although, this cannot be guaranteed)

And for all those who ask "who made America keeper of the world" and claim we are just imperialists: don't ask for any more assistance. We give more money to more nations than anyone else. Our economy supports and provides a market for millions of people worldwide.

The United States government right now is protecting it's own interests, primarily financial to protect the fat-cat HUGE conglomerate corporations (namely oil, where did the Executive higher-ups work before politics?) In short, its all about the Benjamins. Dubb-ya used the Iraq war as an excuse to gain control over the oil, which we can all learn to live on less. I don't think democracy can be spread by violence. In order to form (a more perfect union) a democratic society based on individual free will, you can't scare people into doing it, they have to be empowered to find it in their own way, provided they want democracy in the first place.

Can you wrap your mind around the concept of "Corporacracy"? Government by trans-national corporations. This is what American leaders mean by democracy. They do not mean democracy as the right to vote and choose your own leaders and your own form of government, they mean the right of trans-national corporations to own everything, make all decisions about consumption, and all decisions about employment, natural resources, migration, and worst of all, they want to own all the information out there so that you won't even know you've been turned into a slave.

of course, america is after it's own interest. I am american and i am brought up in a culture where self gain comes first. I did realize how self centered I was when I came to another country on secondment. Anyway, long story short - it's obvious that this whole fight against terrorism is for america's gain. What I can never understand is why the other countries (such as UK) wack their tail with Bush's order!

I think you have actually answered your own question!

The sad bit is that the american people seem to believe their government is acting in the interest of global democracy - sorry but who exactly made america the keeper of the world (other than their own delusional politicians)?

While the world suffers from the imperialist actions of the USA, american multi-national corporations and politicians smile while their pockets are lined with millions of dollars and their policies are implemented in newly formed 'democractic states' (and i use that term loosely)
