Hi,

I'm a sociology student at the University of Tasmania (Australia) and am trying to find people who have been to raves (anywhere in the world) and have experienced any form of spiritual enlightenment / healing / development.

I would also appreciate the comments of anyone who has been to a rave and believed it to be just mindless escapism.

Any comments would be great.

Have you been to a rave and gained nothing from it?
Have you been to a rave and experienced self enlightenment?

If you did experience self enlightenment, did you use Ecstacy, or other drugs to achieve it, or was it a result of an absorbtion into the music (or something else).

Any comment will be kept anonomous - and will only be used to back up my arguments.

Thanks for your help

Hey Mate!

I have been to hundreds of raves, (literally) and I have never once been on any drug or alcohol what so ever. The best thing to drink is lots of water as all the dancing and usual hot temperatures indoors will make you dehydrate quickly.

I have been to raves with a few dozen people and I have been to massive 72 hour raves outdoors that topped 25000 people, and of course I have been to the ledgendary Full Moon party in Thailand more than a couple of times.

As for the answers to the rest of your questions. I find enlightenment in the music, in myself, and in the others around me. I perform fire dancing at outdoor events and the feeling of the music coupled with the fire dancing sends me into a trance all of my own. I can forget everything around me and for those minutes/hours and it is just myself, the music, and the patterns of fire encircling my body. The energy is Euphoric at a good rave with all the people dancing and having a good time.

I have been to bad raves as well where most of the people are on drugs and it is not about the music. I know a lot of these people and they use it as an excuse to get high, listen to music, look at pretty colours, and escape from their reality for a short amount of time. I try to avoid these extreme versions of ravers as I am not a drug or alcohol orientated person.

The best rave I have ever been to was my first Full Moon Party in Thailand. Imagine 17,500 people from all different cultures on one beach for one night. It is true that most people are just there for the drugs and that quick escape but I loved it. I performed fire dancing with people from 7 different Countries that night and the music brought us all together. All these people on the beach were total strangers but I felt a connection with everone of them when the music played. There was no fighting that I saw, and everyone was dancing in harmony. That was one of the best nights of my life!

BTW, I am heading back to Thailand next month and I will be sure to hit up another Full Moon Party.

Feel free to ask any questions you may need mate. I have been in the Rave Scene for 7 years now (ever since I was legally old enough) and have a lot of fun doing it.

I don't know about enlightenment but I spoke about this with my mate years ago and we both felt that in our normal daily lives since using ecstacy at raves a few times, we were able to be slightly happier. I guess, a slight development in the power of mind to be in to a happy mood without needing a strong reason, if that doesn't sound like complete bs. I dunno, maybe the huge positive experience made new connections in our minds. But I wouldn't say it was a dramatic change - just noticeable.

Actually I guess in a way it was a kind of buddist-like enlightenment or freedom to be happy. Yeah but I wouldn't over emphasis it too much. But we only used ecstasy a few time cos of the fear of what happened to someone we knew who supposedly lost all enjoyment of life.

Years ago when X was popular I was hooked. To this day it is the only drug I have ever consumed that made feel that if heaven exits that would be what you would feel like. The euphoria with yourself and others is amazing and life altering. I only attended one rave and the experience was a peaceful one until the cops broke it up. My experiences with X were all the same. I loved everything and everyone, I had no fear of saying anything, and I had complete sense of reality. It took away all the societal fears of rejection and freed me. Its as if I say the world as nothing but beauty everyone, everything, every sound, and every touch. I would probably still be a fan if it wasn't for the crash and the risk but boy what a ride. I'll never forget X, hell its how I met my husband. (going on 5 years)

self enlightenment? not really. was just a little too happy to be extremely depressed the following couple of days.

are raves good? well, sure they are but the effects on your mental health are too great.

Jesus Christ is the Light of Mankind, therefore enlightenment comes from Jesus Christ only. Not from the rave and the other works of the devil and his demon spirits.
"light" was found 125 times in 100 verses in the New Testament.

Matthew 3:16 - And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

Matthew 4:16 - The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

Matthew 5:14 - Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Matthew 5:15 - Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Matthew 5:16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 6:22 - The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

Matthew 6:23 - But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

Matthew 10:27 - What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.

Matthew 11:30 - For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew 17:2 - And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
Luke 1:79 - To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Luke 2:32 - A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

John 1:4 - In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

John 1:5 - And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 1:7 - The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

John 1:8 - He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

John 1:9 - That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

John 3:19 - And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

John 3:20 - For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

John 3:21 - But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

John 5:35 - He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
