"they have asked me to sound you out if I hear from you" . . . .not entirely sure what it means Help Please !! :-)

It comes from the process of seismology, used when searching underground for oil deposits. The use of sound waves to scan the ground is also called 'sounding'.
It can either mean to check up on you to see how you are doing, or it could mean to get your opinion on a particular topic. If I wanted to know if someone was genuine about something or just spouting talk, I would sound them out to get a feel of them.

it means to listen to your ideas or opinions, in case they can either employ you insome way or make use of your ideas, obviously the person saying that you should be sounded out ,thinks you have something valuable to offer as they are kind of referring you to another.
