Hepatitis B Core antibody may mean that you had previous exposure to Hepatitis B thus producing antibody to it. BUT it does not necessarily mean you have it..unless the Hepatitis surface antigen or know as HbsAg is positive. So just to be sure go and have your blood test for HbsAG. God bless!

A positive hepatitis B core antibody means that some one was exposed to the virus at some point in their lives.
You cannot get a positive hepatitis B core antibody from the vaccine because the vaccine does not include the core protein. However, over 95% of people exposed to hepatitis B as adults get rid of the virus by themselves. They are then permanently immune from being infected by the hepatitis B virus again. If somebody is hepatitis B core antibody positive and hepatitis B surface antigen negative, they are likely to be one of those individuals. Many people who are exposed to hepatitis B do not develop jaundice.

Why doesn't anyone here who is getting test results back ASK THEIR DOCTOR WHAT THEY MEAN? You didn't test yourself, right? Who gave you the result and why didn't you ask them?

It indicates active hepatitis B infection and not chronic hepatitis. Consult a physician as it means you are suffering from hepatitis B infection at the present time which is infectious to others too. In chronic Hepatitis B Hepatitis B surface antigen becomes positive. You may go on to develop jaundice and lethargy and there are complications like arthritis and nephritis so get yourself to an internist. as you are suffering from an acute hepatitis B infection, not just a chronic carrier at the present time.

You either have hepatitis B or you have had a vaccination for it and you have antibodies. Ask the lab who gave you the results or a doctor.
