A sick liver is not able to tolerate fatty and greasy foods, no buttter or cheese, vegetable oil in restricted amounts and proteins have to be decreased in the diet. The usual amount of protein required is 1gm per kg body weight daily. In liver disease better to restrict it to 0.5 gm/kg bodyweight daily.
The good food to eat is lot of glucose drinks and sugar drinks. It helps the liver.Eat less meat and more of sugar drinks and foods.Most of all bed rest is the single most important factor helping the liver, no heavy physical work.

i agree with the others. milk thistle supposedly have favorable effects. (be careful not to overdo on herbal stuff though, because too much will aggravate the liver. there r reports of patients going into liver failure because they took too many/much herbal products. also see if u can find one made without pesticides..maybe hard to find proper labeling)
a weak liver also has trouble processing too much fat and protein. not that u should not eat them, but don't eat too much fattening things and watch how many servings of meat u eat in a day. also reduce ur cholesterol intake and intake of fat-soluble vitamins (a, d, e, and k).
avoid liver-irritants- such as alcohol, tylenol, maybe consider eating organic (pesticide-free) fruits/vegetables.
