your life is not terrible, it could be worse, like you could have been a victim of Katrina, but on to your question......

check in your area for pro bono lawyers that will help you with your bankruptcy case. if a murderer can get a lawyer provided to him by the state im sure you can find one to help you with your bankruptcy and the best of luck to you

We The People is an organization that has trained professionals that will prepare all the documents you need to submit in order to file Bankruptcy. i am not sure if they will accompany you to court.
You have the website. obtain the telephone number to an office near you and inquire.
There is a Pro-Bono Consumer bankruptcy office in Midtown Manhattan that assists low-income individuals with completing the papers. There is an attorney on staff but you have to submit an application and then be placed on a waiting list.
Then you are called in to be assessed to determine if you qualify for the low cost services. If your income is very low. you may not have to pay the filing fee.
You will not be permitted to speak to a lawyer. you will speak to a paralegal.
If you live in New York you may call:

you could talk with your creditors yourself. they will of course insist that you pay the full amount that you owe them, however if you pay them what you can afford (this is called good attempt to pay or something like that) even if only $5 a month they can not sue you and garnish your pay. you do this you can negotiate a deal for things like freezing interest accrual
