Ever thought about a 351 Windsor? Basically a long stroke 302. Or if you can find 1 a 351Cleveland is a screamer if done right. A c4 auto is good for about 350hp. A c6 is good for about 450 stock. A c4 is lighter and can be made to handle 500' But be ready to fork out the doe. If you have enough tunnel room go with the c6' Heaver' But will not cost as much. Thought of something else. What about a 460? Just go for kill and get it over with. Look for a 68 to a 72 block. Has factory forged crank and rods. Very little mods will get you over 500hp with almost a stock idle. Use the big block c6' More torque handling already built in.

You can go as big as you want....simple. How about a stroked 512? If it is an all out drag car, why not? For a street car I would not go over a 408 (lots of street driven 9 second 408 mustangs driving around my area). A 408 can easily be put into a thunderbird.

I'm pretty sure it is possible to shoehorn in a 460 big block - the largest displacement Ford V8 is actually smaller on the outside than the modular motor that originally came in T-birds. As for the stock transmission, it's kind of irrelevant with that swap - a 460 won't bolt up to the T-bird's tranny anyway, so you will need to get a transmission that matches the 460's bolt pattern.

You can fit a 351 and stroke it out to a 393. That's what someone did in one issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine. In case you missed it, it had a 393 cubic inch stroker that was running carbuereted. I'm sure you can fit a bigger engine if you stick with fuel injection because the carb system and air cleaner took up a lot of room.

You can get into a 400 modified, or go all out go with a 460. This will give around 550 horses with a slight mod or two, and the C-6 that you should buy attached to it will hold around 600 fps of torque.

A C-6 can be rigged to the small-block bolt pattern
and they are good for at least 600 HP with little or
no mods. However, it's not the most efficient trans.
But it is brutally strong, and can be made much
stronger yet for not much money.
