We just got new couches that are tobacco brown ( almost chocolate) Our wall - art, frames, and such are black, it went perfectly with our old couches. Will black frames go with the tobacco brown. I don't want it to look to dreary or muddy. What colors can i add to make it flow. I really like burnt orange. there are no pillows on the couch or window treatments yet. Painting is out of the question in this apartment. The rug is brownish beige, and walls white, with hideous blinds. But I can't change that, What do you recommend? I'm lost

My living room sounds very similar. I, too, purchased dark brown leather sofas, and my picture frames and such are black. But, it looks fine as I bought some bright coral pillows (Pier One) to freshen it up. Coral definately is your best bet for this color combo. Have fun and good luck!

You may not be able to paint but no one said you can't hang fabric from the ceiling behind where the couch is to add drama, flare and texture. Treat it in the same manner you would a curtain. The best way to pick colors is to find a fabric that you love with all the colors in it and pull from there. That way you know if the colors work well together or not. Also, you may not be able to paint your walls but you can buy fabric that you love, soak it in starch and hang it like wallpaper - very easy to remove, definitely not permanent.Use the chocolate and black as your "nuetral" and add color. Any color that you love will work. Right now it's trendy to use a light blue/teal color with brown. If the black frames are really bugging you cange the pictures to wood frames. Wood frames work no matter the decor. Buy a rug to cover the beige carpet and help pull everything together.

Brown and Black work very well, and Burnt Orange as an accent will work also.
I would do a bit more color sampling however, in your accent choices, and not mix too many colors in the end result.

Since you can't Paint, you can hide as much of the white as possible. The purpose is to distract from so much Brown, but not conflict it so much that it begins to look abstract, and overly busy.

After applying thousands of gallons of paint, and decorating I know this,,,The customer is always right, even when they aren't.

I also know that no answers here will strictly be right or wrong,,but will be personal preferences, and what works for one, may not, for another.

I suggest start with a color wheel, and gauge the color samples against the BIG PICTURE,,,then accessorize away,,,smiles.

Do you have a piece of favorite art, or a throw pillow, or even a piece of clothing that has a pattern and you're just drawn to the colors. Pick out the light neutral color (in this case white) from your piece. Now pick out two accent colors, one being tobacco brown. This is the way decorators decide on how to match up colors in a room. So make it easy on yourself. IT WORKS! And you'll know ahead of time that it's going to look great! I'd hang some sheers over those blinds if you can't take them down, even if I had to tack them up! Godloveya!

you can hang some fabric on some walls-just a large section from floor to ceiling in patterns with brown and orange. Get throw pillows in those colors also. Maybe some white in the fabric also to balance the white walls. Choose one of the colors for window treatments or maybe make a cornice for the top of the windows and use fabric again on those. Another window idea is a solid curtain with a very wide border at the bottom of a second color.

If you can, change the rug to something bright and cheerful with pillows to match and punch up the sofas. Try a very long fabric swag (to the floor on both sides) over your ugly blinds, select a color to brighten like the rug and pillows.

I to love burnt orange and have that as a living room color.

The sum and substance is you want us to appreciate your purchase of tobacco brown couches.

What you can do is to change the blinds and picture frames to off-white colour i.e. a shade lighter than cream colour.

Is your apartment is facing the east? Then the wall on the west side could be slightly modified i.e. You create two/four square blocks on this wall and paint within the squares with sunrise colour paint.

you don't have to go black .. try a red brown that will go nicely with a darker brown. change the blinds if the price is right...
