I installed The original OS, the one that was written by Microsoft, I ended up throwing the thing at the wall so hard that I pulled three tendons in my arm.

Not the OS, I know E is a masked ROM so there is no need to backup OS portion, it meant to HotSync and vacate any personal data within the PDA and card.

Restoration by hard reset if it comes to that.

it is best if you dont install linux just run it from cd rom .
you can burn linux on to a cd
and run it from the cd no need to install
burn the linux files onto cd then put the linux cd in the drive & restart your system then you will come to a option menu you can install or just run
pick run .not install . then linxu will load up and run on your system. you will not damage your other os. when you have had time to look over what linux is like.. just restart your pc and as the pc is restarting remove the linux boot up cd from the drive then your system will boot up back to your windows . os
