Well, I know the difference but what is better....

A car with FWD or 2WD...and especialy during the winter. I have been told that a FWD car is better in the winter. Helps not slide as much...(of course snow tires do better, but I knew that) And I knew that a FWD PULLS the car instead of a 2WD following the front tires, therefor you slide on snow and ice more.

And what about the gas milage, which one does better on gas???
So what's your opinion. or advise?
A car with 2WD (with snow tires)???
OR
A car with FWD (with snow tires)???

We're looking to buy this car, good buy, good miles, good tires, just good all around it's good. It's a 2000 Dodge Stratus WHITE

Not RWD...unless a 2WD "IS" rear wheel drive. And yes, I have owned a car that was rear wheel drive and YES, it SUCKS in the snow. But is a RWD the same as 2WD??

front wheel drive [2 wd]... the front wheels put the engine power to the ground
rear wheel drive [2 wd]... the rear wheels put the engine power to the ground
4wd or all wheel drive use all 4 wheels to put power to the ground
front wheel drive has gained reputation for being better in snow, but this is mostly due to so much weight being over the front tires
i once had a chevrolet 'chevette' which was rear wheel drive but had relatively little power and fairly narrow tires and 'never' got stuck in the snow and I live in toronto canada
i had a chevrolet camaro at the same time and it was very easy to break the rear end of the car loose in the snow, so obviously it isn't just because a car is rear wheel drive that there are problems in the snow, it is the type of car and since you are talking about a stratus and since so few older cars, other than bmw and mercedes are rear wheel drive, just stick with the front wheel drive and you will be fine, but remember, put the snows on and put them on all 4 corners

Are you saying front wheel drive vs. rear wheel drive? You never want to drive a rear wheel drive car in the snow, trust me. I've done it a few times and it is a lot harder. Especially driving up and down hills, you can spin out very easily in a rear-wheel drive car. Even with snow tires, rear wheel drive cars will not perform well in a blizzard.

If your not an experienced driver, front wheel drive is a better choice, handles better in snow and slippery roads.
You normally find rear drives on upper end cars and race cars.
A front end collision in a front wheel drive is pretty much a "Total" every time.
If this Dodge meets your needs and is in good condition...buy it. The color doesn't matter..

i'm not sure if you mean front wheel drive (fwd) or 4wd. front wheel drive would be compared to rear wheel drive and 4wd would be compared to 2wd. if choosing between front wheel drive and rear wheel drive, i would choose fwd every time. sounds like you like the stratus so that's probably the car you should buy.

Front wheel drive just sucks. In the snow you lose your steering when you lose traction. Four wheel drive is great, but you pay out the butt for gas. Buy a Subaru with all-wheel drive, then you get it all amazing winter traction and good gas mileage.

FWD, or 4WD, or four-wheel-drive is always safest.

Economy is affected by how big the engine is. 2WD and 4WD will get very close to the same mileage on the same size engine.
