Example, just take a look around the next time you are at school, shopping or in a restaurant.....do you see good manners and politeness to one another, if adults are not being polite to others, how can we possibly expect children to learn manners.

If I complain about something I try not to get personal with an assistant or raise my voice, equally instead of taking good service for granted, I now make the effort to comment on it. This decision has an unexpected rewards, especially in business when dealing with customers... try it.

Before we try changing children, we need to start at the top with adults.

I agree that parents have the main responsibility but family and teachers can help also.

About the idea of Victorian manners, that is one difficult thing about bringing up kids. If the parents are too rigid or try to enforce impossible rules then the kids will probably rebel.

There is a fine line between proper disciplining and being overly cautious or too rigid.

There are many societies where children are polite and well behaved. Mostly these are societies where the family is the center of life, and careers take second place. Love your children, and they will grow up to be happy and polite. If both parents spend their lives on the corporate tread mill, children will feel neglected and hurt and anger will emerge.

Oooh, guess what. During the Victorian days if you kept on doing it, there was syph...right? So you acted like a nympho/prostitute, and you died.
Guess what happens nowadays if you act like a nympho/prostitute?
Behaviours are formed at different times, and in different ways.

Damned good question.
