My cousin sent me .mpg files of his football game. He says it's a good 30-40 mins, but only 30 seconds of it plays. Using Quicktime on OS X to view it.

Any idea what the problem may be?

I wanted to mention that the Quicktime player gives no error, the play bar goes from beginning to end as if it were a 30 second file. Strange, being that it's over 100 megs.

Can the player be started by UNIX command line in OS X? There maybe some important error msg missed by a graphical interface.

It could be any 1 or a combination of the following:
Please check and verify each step -
What is your CPU capability? Minimum now would be 2GHz or higher
What is your RAM? 512MB RAM or the newer SD RAm would boost speed
What is your Video RAM - min is 64MB
What is the version number of your Quicktime player?
What is the top playing speed of your CD or DVD-CD player? 52X is current minimum
How much FREE SPACE do you have left on your hard disk drive (HDD)? It should be 35% of total or better.

Try running thru this typical checklist and scan-defragment your HDD.

Should your configuration prove to be insufficient, you can probably ask your cousin to save in a smaller file format that your PC can play.

Hope you can watch your cousin's football game after these suggestions.
