They are overrated and underqualified to represent the people they are trying to represent.

The ACLU currently is trying to protect a 'pastor' who is protesting american soldier's funerals. This 'pastor' goes to the funerals and holds up signs that say "Thank GOD for dead soldiers." The pastor does this in front of the families who just lost their son/ husband/ daughter/ wife/ mother/ father. How would we feel if it was our family?

I think the ACLU needs to be stopped and broken up.

I'm a member. They fight many sides, not just liberal causes, and generally it's justice for the little guy or upholding the Constitution when people want to walk over it. They need members to fund the legal work they do.

I'd like to add that the concept of Civil Liberties is novel in history, being about 250 years old, led by the US and France, and even today is not the norm worldwide. They were the principle elements our founding fathers put into place culminating with the Bill of Rights. They are worth protecting.

Since this is becoming a dialog: I don't like everything the ACLU does. Take the priest mentioned below. He's an *sshole, however, he has a First Amendment right to free speech. If you take that from him because he's clearly the worst kind of insensitive *sshole and offends, then do you take it from Rush Limbaugh next? Simon from American Idol?

The attorneys of the ACLU are the protectors against civil rights violations. They stand by the statement in the constitution that all men are created equal. They have even representated the KKK when the were refused a permit to gather to protest which is a basic right of all Americans. They are more popular with liberal politicians than conservatives.

I personally do not believe in their every action - but groups like the ACLU are very important in every country. It's vitally important that governments have opposing forces to keep them in line and thinking about people rather then just cashcash.

So I say WoooHoo! to the ACLU!

The ACLU are a group of college debaters who can argue any side of a question. To bad they didn't make it in college. Did you know you get all kinds of perks when you appear before the Supreme Court. These nobodies will argue any thing that would get them in front of the Court.

People complain when the ACLU defends liberal's rights, then they complain when the ACLU supports conservatives' rights.

You'd think they'd notice that the ACLU's mission is to protect the constitutional rights of all citizens.

America's Public Enemy number 1. They need to be shut down by the authorities and thrown into jail.

Don't believe the guy below. This organization is about deception, and they portray themselves as noble, when nothing could be further from the truth. Wolves in sheep's clothing - that's what they are.

Not what you think!

They represent the poor to give them equal access to the courts for issues that they believe are unconstitutional, just like the rich have!

They have no opinion on what they bring before the Courts! Theirs is based on if it affects a class and if it violates the Constitution!

I imagine the rich would love to preclude the poor from access to the US Supreme Court!

I've never heard anything good about them. I have only heard about bad things they have done, to help criminals and such. Doesn't mean they are all bad but it doesn't look like they mind being the villain so it looks like the majority of them work without morals.
