I am a freelancer based in the United States. One of my clients is based in London. A few day trip for a meeting seems to be stretching out into a longer onsite engagement.

If you look at the stamp in your passport it should say that you are permitted to stay for no longer than 6 months.

To me it sounds likes you've crossed over from a business trip to actually working, which is prohibited on a business visit visa. You might need to seek some professional advice about what you can and can't do on your visa.

Visitor and Busisness people are automatically granted 6 months visa. There is no difference in the type of visa as they are both NON settlement visa granted on arrival or even prior. Since last year 2005, anyone who is an non EU citizen and wants to stay in the UK for a period that EXCEEDS 6 months must obtain a visa beforehand from the Local British Embassy or High Commission. If your already in the UK and want to extend your Visitor/Business visa for more than 6 months, then I am afraid that due to new legislation, you can't. Hope this information in useful.

the U. S. has a visa waiver settlement with the united kingdom which permits British subjects to return and forth to the U. S. for as much as ninety days without intending to get a visa. notice whether which you will would desire to fill out some sort of on line variety called an ESTA and pay a small fee till now you would be allowed to board a flight to the U. S.. See the link below.

If you already have a business visa, then you should be able to extend it for a period determined by the Home Office, but no more then 12 monts. But you must apply prior to the visa's expiration. But if you entered on a tourist visa, then six months.
