My husband had just been married to somebody that took everything from him and ruined his credit, just over a year before we started dating. We began in May. That Christmas, my big present was in this huge box, in which I found a smaller box, and then another tiny box way in the bottom, under a bunch of tissue.
The result was a diamond chip on a thin 10K gold band, and I have never in my life received anything else as special! We have been together 14 years now, and I still cherish my ring. I see other ladies with 1/4 and 1/3 K diamonds and huge bands that wrap around the wedding band, but mine is far more special than theirs will ever be, because he gave me all that he could possibly give!

to be honest with you I think people put way to much importance on a ring, it used to be said that it should be 1 month's salary, which is a stupid amount of money to spend on a ring if you are not a really high wage earner (unless you have saved really hard for it that is) and recently on Answers people have been saying 3 months salary, that is just beyond reality, no man can live 3 months without a salary, and that just sounds so greedy! An engagement ring is an outward symbol of your engagement, and whatever my b/f could afford would be good with me. I prefer silver to gold, and am not a diamond fan. All of my jewellery is funky or unusual, I would rather he went to Camden Market and bought me a silver ring with a lump of Amber in it than a diamond, he could get a stunning ring for less than £20, and that would suit me as much as a HUGE rock of a diamond.

Yes, the rings are not the important part of the engagement, it's the love and committment you're making. BUT, if you have it like that, go for a colored diamond in a platinum setting.

the ring to me, isn't that important it's more about the sentiment behind it. i was engaged before and the ring was BEAUTIFUL... a emerald cut 2.5 k diamond on white gold...but the guy who gave it to me was a painted rock if you can get the analogy (if not i mean he was a fake and turned out to be a real JERK) if someone really loves you the ring makes no difference at all it is more important that they have YOU than anything material.

My now-husband took me ring shopping to find out what styles I liked. We looked at them together. Then he went back to the jewelry store alone and picked the one that he liked best out of all the ones I liked. That way, he knew he was getting something I loved, and it was still a surprise to me! Everyone has a different idea of the perfect engagement ring...

My ideal engagement ring is a 2 caret solitaire diamond. Nothing fancy, just plain. I would even take a 1 caret, as long as the man i love is giving it to me!!

I have my ideal ring and i love it, girls like diamond rings...some just don't want to admit it.
Mines a 3/4 c. brilliant(round) diamond with small diamonds lining the band, simple. It looks great!

A girl a few months older than me that went to my school this year (she's not there any more...I missed her! When I saw her again, she said her phone broke when she had a fight with her fiance!) lost a thousand-dollar diamond engagement ring while swimming-it went down the drain! (Heart SPLIT!) And he bought her ANOTHER one! (:-o! I'd kill anyone who did that!! Let alone buy such an expensive little useless thing!) He has a good job. He was an apprentice of something and I think he was about 21...! Wow-he SAVED!
We were the only 2 (or was there another one?) who were engaged. Now that she's gone...the popular stuck-up hot guy and girl make fun of me! (They can't DEAL with it! They were probably never loved enough for someone to keep a promise to them!)
A lovely, simple BLUE one (stands for romance, peaceful, loving-and also my Favourite colour! And hopefully VERY HARD to dint, perfect size, and costs a lot-but not a grand, of course! Unless you have enough money left to get married very soon straight after instead of a long engagement, and a good age with a very good job!)
I hated rings before-they would always get stuck to me, hurt me, make me itch underneath, drop off, I'd get worried about wrecking it or losing it when I was doing manual stuff and make my skin go dead-white! I ended up loving them again, thanks to Kris!
Btw-MEAN it! Stay the same. Keep your promises.
BELIEVE in it! Have faith in the symbol!
