I desire, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument; also that the women should dress themselves modestly and decently in suitable clothing, not with their hair braided, or with gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, but with good works, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God. Let a woman learn in silence with full submission. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she is to keep silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. Yet she will be saved through childbearing, provided they continue in faith and love and holiness, with modesty. [1 Timothy, chapter 2]

"I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over a man." That is totally sexist! In America, there are millions of female teachers and we have women throughout our corporate and govenment hierarchies. No intelligent person believes that women should be silenced.

well it looks like men back then didnt like the idea of women being in control, im sure back then they were seen as either baby factories or property...most likely both.

why does it say it? well because it ws a popular beleif at the time.

whats worse is that people today still beleive it. and have absolutely no problem with it in there.

religion is something i am EXTREMELY glad i dodged.....like a freakin bullet aimed at my head.

I wonder about that myself. They say that men and women
take turns being in power on our world.
The last time women had the power. There were women who
treated men as equals. Most of them couldn't care less about
men just like today. And then there was the Amazon society.
They killed the male children, and only kept enough for breeders
and slaves.
Many of the struggles we go through are karmic. But we
make choices in the here and now as well. The whole point
of being in power, is learning to use it wisely.

Hello!! :o) There were many women in the Bible who took on very important roles. They even preached and 'worked along side their husbands'. [AS EQUALS]

But that said... are you REALLY going to take the position that unless GOD praises YOU [in a way that YOU WANT to be praised] that God can [basically] 'get lost'?! Is that what you're doing? God doesn't have to glorify YOU. [or anyone else - regardless of sex] It's YOUR job to glorify HIM. Be careful. Don't miss out on the promises of God because you're stuck on this one issue. Ask God directly about it. And wait upon Him for an answer. Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)

ACTUALLY Paul wrote those passages. PAUL was never married. Further more the women were told to be quiet at that time as they were talking in the temple. BUT if you read further in the bible . IT says there is neither male nor female in Christ Jesus.AND if you read a little further it says " God is no respector of persons"------ AND if you go to the OLD testament writings God used a jack (a s s ) to speak through. AND it wasn't MR ED either. And if G0d can use a jack a ss he can use a woman.

That is talking about the church, not government, not family, not marriage, just in church. Have you ever been around a group of women in that kind of organization....the gossip is like wildfire, it gets ugly. Sad but true in the churches we've been in over the years.

Men and women each have a place in the church. We are equal but not the same. Each has a job to do. Because Adam was created first, he bears the responsiblity of the family. When the family fails, God is going to ask the man why he blew it. That is why when Eve ate the apple, God asked Adam about it.

It's really not about sexism but divison of labor. Women make wonderful government leaders, teachers and corporate heads. I think we bring a certain compassion to those roles.

Ah....no intelligent person believes in the literal interpretation of the bible...if they believe in it at all....
so, you are back to the old adage of :
"consider the source"....the type of person that would justify any action or belief merely because it is "in the bible" is probably not the sharpest knive in the drawer to begin with; somewhat akin to feeling insulted by the words of a three year old....

The shame of it all is that, unfortunately, people will use whatever excuse they can find -anywhere- to justify their unjust behavior

It is not about women and men. It is about a wife and a husband. Probably, very old conservative style as the bilble was written in old days. If you want to argue with that, go ahead and you will find a very wide load of different responses. Never ending stories.

Right you are . There are people in other parts of the world that believe and follow this. There is even a part of the world where female babies are killed because they are not male. How ignorant , how do they recreate themselves? Fortunately they will not , their un-intelligence shall die with them.

I bet that was Susan B Anthony's favorite verse.

All kidding aside.I the ten commandments were good . God would have written , thou shall treat women as equals and thou shall not own slaves.
