Take the "high road" not the low one why would you want to respond to someone like that and stoop to their level. Its not worth your breath or time forget about it and shrug it off.

Sarcastic remarks can be entre's into amusing conversations but if the comment was mean-spirited, the best way of dealing with the situation is to smile politely and ignore it.

You don't!
Why waste your time on negative things?
It will only upset you and if you don't respond....you'll forget about it in about a minute!! Laugh at how the comment bounces off your Superman chest...LOL
People just do this to get your attention and if you respond you are doing exactly what they want.
Some people need to put people down to make themselves feel better. They can't put you down, if your opinion of yourself is so HIGH! =)
If a person is mean and negative, you will probably never be able to change the way that person thinks, no matter what you do.
I'd rather debate with a person who repects me and my opinion.

I know a lot of people say to just ignore that kind of thing, but my feeling is we ignore bad behavior too often People can't change if we don't tell them they are behaving inappropriately--because sometimes they really don't realize what asses they are being.
If the comment is inappropriate, call attention to it by saying something like, "Ouch, you're feeling mean today." or something, but don't let them step aside. Look them right in the eye and say, why would you say that to me? Keep eye contact....the beauty is the discomfort you cause them and maybe they will think next time.

I would normally pretend not to know they are being sarcastic and smile back and use their own words back on them.
It works for me, cos their reactions reflect whether they did intend being sarcastic or were they just being careless with words.

if the sarcastic remark is at your expense:
"That made me feel good about myself" is pretty useful. Sarcasm fought with sarcasm can be completely ineffective, though.
