Incorporating any new change into your life takes a little bit of work. In the beginning it will take a little bit of planning, but before you know it your new eating schedule will become a habit. Because most of us are beings of routine, it won’t take long before eating four to five times a day will be second nature to you.

You are going to have to take the initiative to plan atleast some of your meals for the day. This doesn’t mean that you have to physically prepare all or any of your food, but it does mean that you have to be prepared with healthy options. You can pick easy items up at the grocery store, you can take leftovers from dinner the night before, you can buy already prepared meals, etc. Whatever you choose, it is your responsibility to take the few minutes to always have something nutritious available for you to eat. This way you won’t find yourself at the mercy of poor options when it comes time for you to refuel your body.

My number one suggestion would be to have a pretty consistent schedule day in and day out for when you eat. This way your eating times will become routine. If you have a consistent time that you eat lunch everyday, it would probably be best to schedule the rest of your meals and snacks around this time. For instance, lets say you eat lunch everyday around 1 o’clock. If this is so, then you are going to want to have a snack around 10 am (3 hrs. before) and have breakfast between 6 and 7 am (3-4 hrs. before your snack). You would do the same thing for your afternoon meals, as well. Since you ate lunch at 1 pm, your mid day snack would ideally be between 4 to 5 pm (this snack is going to be even more important for those individuals that decide to workout in the evening after work) and dinner would be no later than 8 pm.

Some people see eating 4 to 5 times throughout the day as an inconvenience. I bet some of these same people don’t have any problem taking 5, 10, or even 15 breaks to smoke a cigarette during the day. Personally, the more times I get to eat during the day the happier I am and the better I feel. Remember that eating more times doesn’t mean eating more food. You have to prioritize what is really important to you. If you are interested in improving your eating habits, incorporating smaller more frequent meals into your day is a pretty small inconvenience (and I am only saying inconvenience because we are talking about just starting this routine, after it becomes routine it will be second nature) for the results it will yield

Yes it is 100% true. As many writers have already responded with facts, no matter if your want to loose weight or pack on some lean muscle mass, 5 or 6 smaller meals a day is better all around than the traditional 3 meals a day. If it is diet of course the food groups would be a little different than if you want to pack on some lean muscle mass, but as far as the work on your digestive system, liver, and kidneys...smaller is better. In addition, we have found out in the fitness field, that all you need is one warm meal a day as opposed to the normal thinking we all grew up with. A sandwich with turkey, roast-beef, tuna, or chicken, a yogurt, and a piece of fruit is much more better for you than what many people think. Of course we talking about wheat bread, very little mayo, lettuce and tomato....super small meal, and there are many others. Great Question.

Yes, it is true. The reason is (history lesson) we are hunter/gatherers so we evolved to eat berries/grains while we moved ad gathered to later store the food. I have learned that the metabolism is different for every person, but roughly it remains higher/consistant if you eat within every 3 hours and your first meal should be within the first 2 hours of waking up, or it drops. I have tried going outside the 2 hours and I have been in the dumps for the rest of the day. Tina Turner's last meal of the day is at 6 pm so she has enough time to burn off some of the food before she goes to sleep. If you eat right before bed then of course it sits and is absorbed more because you aren't burning it off.
As far as WHAT to eat, ( i know it isn't part of the question but why not) there are different enzymes that digest different things. They are more efficient if they don't work at the same time.
eat fruit separately from proteins. Eat veggies and protein together, but don't add the starches with it. Fruits and proteins are brutal. I can never have the cherries and duck together. my stomach wreaks havoc after...
Minimize water intake within 30 min of eating otherwise you dilute the enzymes. Eat healthy and balanced. Monitor and keep a diary of what food you have and when and when you normally feel a slump or not. For further info, look below

One more thing: the other nice thing about having small meals is that you never get a huge stomach and feel bloated/ fat after and are worried about how you are going to look later in the super slinky dress... things to think about. best of luck!

Sounded good to me. I was eating 3 regular meals, then switched to 6 smaller meals. Now I find myself eating 3 small meals and 3 regular meals. It seems my mind liked the idea of 6 small meals, but my body longed for the 3 regular meals. In the end I got some of each. The result has been a 25 pounds increase in my weight over a six month period. To correct my error, I'm trying to eat less, and I'm serious about exercising. I'm sure I'll get my weight back down, but I thought I'd share my story with you so that you are aware of how easily meal size switching can produce unexpectd results. Good luck by the way. And I'd love to hear about your results in say six months.

It is true. Health specialists say that if you eat a few small meals a day instead of 3 lg ones, it increases your metabolism and makes you feel healthier. And it's easier for your body to digest too. :)

Maybe for feeling chipper. I think the little meals tend to be proteins. I don't know if that is what happened in history.
